Hey! So first off, I just wanted to say the background for my cover image for this fanfic was made by @texturous on IG. The lovely edit up there ^^, the picture with this story was made by @dontellthelf on IG. Just giving credit where credit is due! The image with this fic has nothing to do with the story but I liked it so I included it as the image!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Welcome back, Arwaenal," a guard nodded at me and I smiled, stopping only to nod my head in return. I slipped through the gates and they thumped shut behind me. "Arwaenal! Where have you been?" A handsome blonde elf ran lightly towards me and flashed me a large smile.
I bowed my whole body, bending at the waist. "My lord" I yelled poshly, and the elf laughed, elbowing me. "Shut up," he said. I returned the laugh.
"Sorry, Legolas. I forget you are only a prince."
This evoked a large poke in the ribs from Legolas, the elf. The Prince of Mirkwood, after his father Thranduil. I slapped his arm away and he frowned.
"What is this?" He unsheathed a sword hanging from my waist before I could grab it away from him. I sighed. "Have you been out fighting?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No of course not. I carry a sword with me to protect myself from your father," I said sarcastically. He glared at me. "You did not go out to fight orcs all on your own did you?" I hung my head. "Yes." I whispered. Legolas was my best friend, and lately he had become very protective of me. "I'm fine! I didn't even come across anything," I shrugged reassuringly.
"Legolas! Your father would like a word with you!" A tall brown haired elf with a pointy nose yelled in Elvish and waved over Legolas. I naturally followed. The elf eyed me and I shifted uncomfortably. "Just the prince, sorry Arwaenal," he smiled.
"Oh, ah, of course." I stepped aside to let Legolas pass. As he stepped past, he brushed my arm accidentally with his fingertips and my skin tingled. I clenched my jaw and watched him walk off. I shook my head.
No.
Legolas is my friend. But his smile.
No. But his handsome features, strength, archery talent. No. Stop Arwaenal, I thought to myself.
But I couldn't.~
"Legolas. Thankyou." the King looked very similar to his son. He had a strong jaw, peircing blue eyes and long straight blonde hair that tumbled down his back. A crown of twigs was placed atop his head and he was wearing his long silver robes.
"What is it you wish to speak to me about, father?" Legolas returned in his native language. "Oh just something that has been playing on my mind, my son," Thranduil said, and he stood up from his throne. He began pacing the chamber and Legolas swallowed nervously. "Is it of battle, father?" He questioned. "No." Thranduil stopped and stared hard at his son.
"It is of your relationship with that elf girl, Arwaenal." Legolas was taken aback and he adopted a confused expression. "What? What about her?" Thranduil gazed down at Legolas. "I do believe she is a bad influence on you."
The room fell silent before the King chose to speak again. "She is reckless; only wishing to harm others around her. Maybe she does not see it or mean to, but she does. I simply do not like her, Legolas," he clasped his hands behind his back and Legolas' eyes grew wide.
Thranduil sat back down on his throne and folded his hands into his lap. Legolas whipped around and clenched his jaw. He marched from the room, knocking shoulders with a guard but not caring.
~
I spotted Legolas walking towards me, his jaw set and his eyes dull. "Legolas!" I shouted. The strangest thing happened. He slipped straight past me, like I wasn't even there. "Legolas?" I followed him as he ran lightly down flights of steps towards the large set of double doors leading into and out of the kingdom.
