It had officially been a week since I broke up with Tessa.
You would think I would be dating Garret by now, but no. He told me that if I wanted to date him, I would at least have to come out to my family. He said that closeted relationships rarely work and he can't stand them.
Oliver told me he still had some feelings for me but he would get over them, and he wanted me to be happy with Garret.
I really felt bad for making Tessa and Oliver cry over me. I just couldn't help that I liked Garret! He was all adorable and stuff! They are, too, but... they're not Garret-y enough.
Gah, I sound like a little girl!
I was adamant to not tell Garret I like him, and technically I didn't. He told me he liked me back, though.
Surprisingly, we haven't kissed since the day in the woods. I've been driving him to and from school and we went to Starbucks the other week, and I spent the night at his house on Saturday night, but no kisses. We've hugged and cuddled but he made it adamant I was out before we enter a relationship.
Today would be the day I told my parents. I knew they would both be home when I got home, and I knew Lily would be at Garret's house playing dolls, and Ash had soccer practice. It was me and my parents and August.
"I'm going to tell my parents today. " I said as I drove Garret home after school. He smiled at me, and he knew exactly what I was talking about.
"Good. I'm proud of you, and I'm happy for you, and I'm sure they'll accept you. Come tell me when you're done and I'll make sure to give you a kiss, okay? That'll be your reward. " I pulled into his driveway as he finished, a blush on my cheeks.
"Alright. I'll see you then. " I said with a smile, waving at him. He waved back and I drove home after he got in his house.
"Mom, dad?" I called. They were in the kitchen, having some juice and feeding August. They looked up at me, concerned.
"Yeah?" Mom asked worriedly. Her brows were furrowed.
"I wasn't trying to scare you... I just need to tell you something, and I need your full attention for it." I said quietly. I tried to speak as clearly as possible, but it was a lot scarier than I would expect.
"Go ahead. We're listening." Dad said, looking at me worriedly. I took a deep breath, hesitating. "We won't be mad. Is it about... Tessa? Did you two...?" I blushed.
"No, no!" I said frantically. "Tessa and I broke up about a week ago. But, I, um... I had liked someone for a few months while I was dating Tessa... and that's why it went downhill. I was trying to tell myself, oh, I don't actually like them... but now I know... I do. I like them a lot, and I know I do... and they said... they said they like me back. " I rubbed the back of my neck sheepishly. "It's uh..." I couldn't finish.
"Go on..." My mom urged and I sighed. My dad nodded in agreement.
"It's just that, I don't know how you'll... react... when I tell you that who I've been liking since this summer... it's a guy... it's, uh... it's Garret..." I mumbled.
"Well." My mother sighed. "I kinda figured, because instead of using female pronouns, you used gender neutral pronouns. But I didn't know it was Garret. I don't mind. I'm happy you told us. I'm proud of you, a bit shocked however. You're gay?"
"I, uh, I dunno. " I replied simply. I looked at my dad. He said nothing.
"I mean, if he makes you happy, then I'm happy for you. Just... no PDA in front of Lilian and Kat, and when August gets older, him too. We can tell Ash for you. " I nodded.
