I walked out of the Police Station with no more than 15 words scribbles onto my notepad. A good headline story was waiting in there, but it somehow slipped through my fingers. There's a gradual rising of frustration and anger building up inside me. The police had already gave the information of the murder to another reporter.
And I knew who.
Gwen Owens.
A hostile snake is as vicious as her pinky finger. Her bouncy blond hair, bright pink lips, and fluttering eyelashes usually gets her the story she needs. And to make matters worse, she rubs it in my face.
Look who got front cover again!
Didn't get an assignment, Annie?
Pity!I swear I could snap her neck. Going to jail would be worth it.
I unlocked my car and leaned back in the drivers seat. My boss's words echoed in my head.
"You need a cover story, Annie. Get one soon, or I'm afraid we'll no longer need you."*tap tap tap*
I slowly opened one eye.
"Yoo-hoo! Tammy!" Gwen Owens was tapping my window with her long pink nails. I rolled it down.
"It's Annie. What do you want?" Gwen smiled widely. "Just wanted to tell you that you got on the front page, silly!"
I sat up straight. "What? Really?" She handed me the morning paper and pointed at a section in the front.
"The fattest man in the world died yesterday, May 12th."
I fumed and tossed the paper out the window. Gwen laughed and winked.
"That's not very professional of you, Fannie."
I rolled up the window and drove away. Gwen is such a skank. She doesn't even read the paper, and I'm not so sure she can read at all. Which works in my advantage, because what she doesn't know is that I saw something she didn't.
Not about the fat man, but about Felix Coult, multi-billionaire, air to the throne in a small English country. It said he was spotted somewhere near here.
This is the story I've been waiting for.
I took a detour and turned left off the usual street back to the office and headed toward the beach.
