Annabeth POV:
The crowd's too thick and I can barely move. I shove my way forwards and manage to get to the front where I stand at the edge and stare down at the Olympic sized swimming pool below me. The arena is packed; more than I've ever seen here at this aquarium. A boy sits with his legs dangling in the water on the edge of the pool. His messy black hair goes well with his blue and black wetsuit and he clears his throat in the microphone. Immediately everyone shuts up and I lean forwards to get a better view.
"Welcome to Poseidon's Atlantic Aquarium! My name is Percy and today I'll be showcasing the dolphins." The boy says and there was a quick round of applause. "Here at P.A.A we take the wellbeing of our species very seriously. Each dolphin is raised in our state-of-the-art facility where we have carers on hand. I won't bore you with our facts, so I'll pass you over to Claire and we'll continue on with the show."
Percy passes the microphone up to a woman with brown hair who smiles and starts speaking about the dolphins. I drown her out as I watch Percy slide into the pool. Immediately a fin appears and a dolphin pops up beside him. Percy uses hand gestures to communicate with it and the dolphin swims off towards the middle of the pool. Claire had stopped speaking and everyone's attention was now focused on the dolphin.
Suddenly, it leaped out of the water with two other dolphins. I watch in fascination as they did multiple tricks to thunderous applause. When they stopped doing tricks, I was sure the crowd was disappointed, but I wasn't. I had noticed that the dolphins were so sleek and agile as they leaped out of the water and had an idea which could be used in a building.
I open up my shoulder bag and pull out my drawing pad and pens as everyone around me walks away. As I begin to draw, I make sure to keep an eye on Percy as he gets out of the pool and is immediately swarmed by reporters. Apparently they were doing a piece for the local newspapers about the aquarium.
Once I had finished my sketch, I walk to the exit and descend the stairs back to the main part of the aquarium. Percy was standing just outside the door to the pool area. Our eyes lock and I quickly walk away as I realise that he goes to my high school. Percy Jackson. The name pops into my head as I exit the building.
Percy happens to be my best friend Rachel's crush. I now realise why she liked him; he was cute and his dad also owned this aquarium. Even though he was really popular, he didn't have a lot of friends at school. Maybe he liked only having a few, maybe he didn't want to be popular. I think to myself.
But whatever it was, I was determined not to focus on Percy Jackson.
