The next day, Kailey left, and things got more serious. Me and Isaiah stayed up until midnight to talk. Skype calls, face times, text messages. It was like someone had lit a flame from a pile of ashes.
I was dying to know how he felt about all of this but I could tell by the way his voice grew anxious when I threatened to go to bed, and he begged me to stay, that he felt the same spark I did.
The day of our movie date creeped up and he helped me pick my outfit. I straightened my brown hair and put on some knee socks with a cute skirt. A little makeup, also. I wasn't the greatest at the pointy eyeliner or the brows, but I tried. After all, I was only 14. How sharp my eyeliner was wasn't the most important thing on my mind.
I was shaky the whole car ride there. My mom dropped me off outside of the movie theatre and I met my old friends. I was greeted with hugs and laughs. Me and my friends hung out for a few minutes before Isaiah had arrived.
When I saw him, my knees buckled. He greeted me with a warm smile. I wonder if he could hear my heart pounding. It wouldn't surprise me, as it was so loud even I could hear it.
My palms were sweaty. Pull it together Bella.
"Ready to go get our seats?" I asked as Isaiah said hi to the other friends there.
"Sure thing." said Clover, who lead us to the theatre.
We all sat down, me between the two girls and Isaiah on the end. When suddenly, Clover and Isaiah's friend, the other girl there, spoke up. "WE FORGOT POPCORN! Bella, can you go get the popcorn? How did we forget!"
I hesitated. Why me? Was this a set up? Just then, Isaiah rose out of his seat.
"I'll go with you, Bella. Let's go."
I simply blushed and nodded, as he followed me out of the row of seats and out of the theatre.
It was a bit awkward, as it always is when you talk to someone online before in person. However, he seemed to be confident in breaking the ice. "Your skirt is so short. You look like a hoe." he teased, before putting his hand up and giggling. "Just kidding, you look really nice today."
This made my heart stop. Isaiah, the one who bullied me all last year, complimented me. Who could've thought?
"Thanks, you look nice too." I said, as we got to the popcorn stand.
We lightly conversed as we went to sit down. However, when we got back, the third girl had taken my spot, leaving me to sit next to Isaiah. I swallowed and anxiously sat down, offering the girls popcorn. They politely declined and the movie began.
It was awkward indeed. However, he seemed to be comfortable, resting his hand on my leg.
As the movie got deeper, he got closer. Right when I expected it least, I felt his warm lips against my cheek. He leaned in close, and whispered to me.
"I think I've been in love with you for a long time, Bella."
I stuttered to make up a response as this was utterly unexpected.
I couldn't respond, and he sensed my confusion. He simply smiled that goofy smile, and rested back into his chair, looking accomplished.
As I sat there with my heart pounding, I gathered up the courage to whisper back.
"I think I'm excited to fall in love with you, Isaiah."
And that, that small confession in a movie theatre, those few words dripping from our star crossed, hopeless romantic teen lips, was the beginning of the end.
