The Child of Artemis

Chapter Six

Amaris' POV

I walk around in the forest, annoyed at pretty much everything. The whole thing with Artemis being at the top of the list. Being lost, though I hated to admit it, was a close second. I had walked away without taking note of anything as I walked deeper into the forest instead of out. So now I had no clue where I was.

Fantastic. It's just what I needed.

I sigh as I come to a clearing. I sit down on at the base of a tree. Seems like the only way I get out of here is if someone comes and finds me. Which sucks because I've been here for hours and seen no one. The sun was even setting at this point.

I sigh again. I was bored and lost in a random forest. Real smart there, Amaris. Maybe next time you should actually make sure you know where you're going!

I watch as the sun disappears completely. Looks like I get to spend the night out here. If only I had my dagger. Then I could at least do something, like... Well I would have figured something out.

Before I can get too upset about my missing dagger, two people walk into the clearing, and walk straight towards me. I stand up. Finally, I'd get out of this dam (Sorry, I had to XD) forest.

"Sit down, Amaris" One of the people said. I was pretty sure it was male. He sounded like he'd prefer to make a joke, but was forced to be serious. I'm pretty sure it was a teenager, or young adult. No more than twenty three, for sure.

I was so busy guessing this guy's age and personality from his voice, that I forgot his command. Much less that he knew my name. Seriously, how does everyone know my name already? Chiron knew it, before I ever told him.

Shut up, brain. You're getting off topic. I think forcefully to myself. I realize, finally what he said.

"Why? Who are you? Why do you think you can tell me what to do? It's not like we've met." I say defiantly. Damn, when did my rebelliousness rise this high?

"Never mind about me," he said, though his voice gave away that he wanted to talk all about himself. He stepped out to where I could see him. He looked like an older version of some of the Apollo kids. Except that he was glaring at me.

"You know, Artemis went through a lot to try and keep you. She had a plan. Then the drama god, otherwise know lb as our father, caught her. She had no choice but to leave you in the care of Abby. Then, she had make Mr. Thunder believe that she killed you. You shouldn't treat Artemis like that. She felt bad enough about leaving you, and you threw that in her face." He rambles on angrily. "My sister did everything she could."

So Artemis was this guy's sister. I'm going to go on a hunch and say this guy is Apollo. My mother's twin brother.

"You're Apollo, I'm guessing. Look, I realize she may have done a lot to protect me, but where was that protection after Abby died? I could have used some. And what about my father? I know nothing, is that the same with him? I had to endure years thinking that my family hated me and left me to die in that alley. So tell me, why didn't she do something? You're her brother. Why didn't you do something?" My voice is surprisingly level and calm. My speech seems to have left Apollo speechless for a moment.

"Look, Amaris," the other speaks now. It is a female voice. "I am Hecate. Your mother's plan consisted of me shrouding you in mist to disguise your appearance. You were supposed to appear as his child." Hecate points at Apollo. "When you got to camp, Apollo was to claim you. You were supposed to live with your father and someone who was to pose as your mother. Your father would have told you everything you needed to know. But their father foiled the plan, and Artemis had to come up with something else. However, I can still use mist on you. I can disguise you, and convince the camp you've looked like Apollo's child all along. Apollo will claim you, and during the school year, you will go home. To your father. You will be sent to a school with an Athena child, who will guide you and teach you what you need to know. He or she will act like your sibling in the mortal world. Is this okay?" Hecate explains the whole plan.
