When we reach the coffee shop it's pretty packed. There's a lot of people staring at us as if we're a couple. It definately didn't help the situation when Bruno pulled my chair out for me.
"So, tell me about yourself?"
"Haha, you don't hang about"
"I like to get straight to the point"
"Haha, okay. Well, I'm Filipino and Puerto Rican. I grew up in Hawaii, and moved to America when I was 18 to try and make my mark in the music industry. Me and my family have always grown up with music being a big part of our lives. I have 4 sisters and a brother - who's the drummer for my band. That's pretty much it."
"What do your parents do now?"
"My dad still enjoys his music. My mom... She died on June 1st."
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry"
"It's okay, you weren't to know."
"But still. That was really insensitive of me"
"Don't worry 'bout it. So your turn, what about you?"
"I don't think you need to know about me..."
"If we're having to spend time together tomorrow I want to know about you"
"Ugh, okay. Urmm, well I'm originally from Italy, I grew up in Lazio, and when I was about 10, my parents moved with me and my sister to America and I've been here ever since. Urm, my parents died in a car crash 7 years ago and I've been teaching since I was 22."
"I'm sorry... How old are you now?"
"Don't be! I'm 27, I'll be 28 in November"
"Ha, me to! I'm 28 in October"
"Haha, it seems we have something in common after all"
"It seems we do! So how was life in Italy?"
"Ah, I loved it, I wish we never left. But it was for my dads business, so I was shoved into a school where everyone spoke english and I couldn't speak a word of it."
"Wow! How did you learn?"
"My, um, friend at the time, he taught me better than any teacher could've."
"What happened between you and him? Did you have a fight?"
"No, he's my boyfriend now."
"Oh."
"awkward. What about you? Do you have a girlfriend?"
"I did, but we broke up a while ago, we just weren't right for each other."
"I see, sorry"
"Nah, don't be, it was my decision."
"Oh. So, what songs have you written?"
"I wrote F-You / Forget You for Cee Lo Green-"
"Seriously? I love that song!"
"Thanks!"
"Oh crap! It's already 4?! Listen, Mr Mars-"
"Bruno"
"-Bruno, it was lovely meeting you and getting to know you but I have to go, I'll see you at school tomorrow though! And. Thank you for this. It was nice"
"And you! Yeah, will do... Anytime..."
I walk out of the shop and look back at him and smile. He smiles back, with brown, beautiful eyes and adorable dimples. I feel myself begin to blush as I turn back and walk to my car. I drive home and sing all the way back. Singing is always something I loved doing and it just seemed fitting right now. When I got home, I fed Benji and continued the work I should have done earlier. For the rest of the evening. Fun.
