Leah's POV
"Leah, hide! You must hide!" My mothers frantic voice was barely heard above the screams of our pack members.
"I can fight, you know I'm better than half the warriors here anyway! Don't make me go. Dad! Please!" I whined through the family mind link. I knew it was a futile attempt but I had to try. As the Alpha and Luna of our pack they were obligated to stay, but there was more to it than that. The look in their eyes was that of a defeated wolf. They were sending me away because we had already lost.
Just as my father shook his head and pushed me towards the forrest I felt my little brother being ripped from my grip.
Turning to look I could see a rogue on top of his small form, my brothers throat already hanging from the mutts jaws.
My mothers piercing scream as she felt the strand of light that connected her to her youngest son be ripped to shreds. I felt it too, it was a searing pain that would have sent me to my knees if I had been in human form.
"Michael! No!"
My howl pierced the night sky but blended in to the screams all around us. I turned to look to my mother for comfort but where she had been standing there was now a rugged looking wolf, his head bent as his claws dug in to my fathers back. In their grief they had not seen him attack.
My mothers body lay thrown to the side face down as if she had been tossed like a rag doll. I felt both strands break at the same time and let out a howl of anguish before turning and bolting in to the woods."Leah...Leah! Wake up Ahnung! Shit..."
In the distance I heard a deep voice that pulled at my heart strings. Through the screams in my mind I felt myself being shaken and opened my eyes, only to find Nicholas' worried face looming above mine.
I frowned, slightly confused as he crushed me to his chest.
"You scared the shit out of me woman! You were having a nightmare?" I blinked and looked at him, surprised by his sudden outburst.
Shaking my head I responded in a low voice. "That's the issue isn't it? It wasn't a dream Nicholas...it was all real. I saw my family being ripped apart and I couldn't do anything...all because of what? Being fucking royal, what ever that means these days. They gave up...and they left me with the burden of surviving without them." My voice broke as I choked back a sob. This was the first time I had actually talked about it more than in passing. A tear slid from the corner of my eye and I wiped it away angrily.
"And now I've been here for less that 24 hours and because of me Rosie is in a coma! I would be smart to leave and you would be smart to let me. I can't put you and your pack in danger. I can't feel that bond being ripped again Nick, I won't survive it."
By now tears had began to fall steadily down my cheeks and my body had started shaking with pent up emotions.I was so not prepared for what happened next.
Nicholas had stayed quiet and listened to my ranting, but now he pulled me close and kissed the top of my head. "Ahnung you aren't going anywhere, Gaia guided your steps here for a reason, I don't believe she would do that if there was not some kind of good reason. She is not always fair but She is wise.
If you being here means we fight a war, then we will fight. And we will win. And you will not stand by this time. You and I will lead our warriors. If it comes to that I promise I won't ask you to stand in the side lines."His voice was full of honesty and commitment and his eyes showed me he meant what he said. I nodded slowly, knowing that even if he tried to lie to me I would be able to tell.
One of the perks that came with the bloodline. We have gifts, the females at least. Aside from being stronger than the average female wolf, we gained gifts at a young age, sometimes since birth. My gift was being able to tell when people were lying. It was...uncomfortable sometimes. But it did serve an important purpose. I decided to hold on to that secret for a while.Offering a sad smile up at Nicholas I felt myself relax in his arms. There was nothing romantic about the way he was holding me, no ulterior motive. Just the comforting feeling of his arms around me. I felt a surge of gratitude towards him as my eyes began to droop once more. It was still dark outside so it couldn't have been later than 5am.
"Nicholas...would you stay, please?" I bit my lip, feeling shy all of a sudden.
He chuckled and nodded, shifting his position so he could lay against the head board of the bed. "I'm not going anywhere Ahnung, sleep now, I'll be here when you wake up."***********************************
Hi!Yes yes I know it's overdue and short. But this chapter had to end here! Exciting things to come!
I apologize for taking this long to update but things got a bit hectic irl.
Being a momma is serious business!Anyway, quick explanation for those of you who may have doubts on my personal take on mind links.
Mind links are established in packs, normally they are only functional during the time spent in wolf form, but between mates and family members of the same bloodline (parents and siblings) it was different, if all were in human form it was impossible to to communicate via mind link, but if one was in wolf form he or she were able to communicate mentally. With mates, it was possible at all times once the complete mating ritual had taken place.
Now that that's cleared up, does anyone have any questions, comments or complaints? I really do encourage constructive criticism people!
I hope you liked this chapter!! Don't forget to show your love by voting, commenting, following and sharing!
Much love
