It was night time. To be specific, the day I am supposed to propose to Lovina.
And the day I die if she says no...
I tugged at the collar of my white shirt. I didn't want something too formal, so I went with black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a white button up, and a (Favorite Color) vest.
I was in the same room with Antonio right now, and he was inspecting me. I was also reasking.
"So do I look okay?'
My voice cracked slightly and I awaited his response.
"Okay? You look great!!" He smiled wide as he stood in front of me.
"Mr. Carrido, I wanted to make sure I am allowed to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage."
He stared at me. "As long as it's still the daughter we're talking about you may."
I sighed in relief and stood up straighter.
He nodded at me allowing me to leave and go get everything ready.
I had reservations at a restaurant that a friend owns. He was more than happy to get us his balcony table. It has a canopy that is a transparent material that makes it possible to see the stars.
I stepped out of the room and snuck into my room to grab the ring box.
I managed to get out of the house and to my car without being seen.
I let out a sigh of relief and climbed in and drove off to the restaurant.
As I got there I was greeted with a small smile. "Hello Onyx! Thanks for the last minute reservation!"
He grunted in response and lead me to the table.
As I stood there I realized how much this moment was perfect for the date. The wind softly blowing through our hair. The beautiful balence of the sunset and the moon and stars.
It reminded me of a watercolor painting. The splashes of color blending together in a mix of pinks, oranges, yellows, reds, and light blues.
I smiled. "It's perfect!" I mused.
Onyx left for a moment and returned with white roses in which he places in a deep purple vase.
I looked at him. "Is everything almost ready?" He gave me a nod and left me to my own devices. I pulled out my phone and glanced at the time.
6:57
It's almost time.
~A few minutes later~
I was waiting, standing at the balcony, letting the breeze flow through me like before.
"Knock knock."
The voice seemed breathless as it was carried away with the wind.
I turned and smiled.
She was wearing a deep red dress that seemed to flow around her. It had thin straps and went down her knees. She wore black heels and her hair was laid in curls.
She's breathtaking....
"Thank you~."
Her eyes were bright and I realized I said that aloud.
I gave her a nervous smile.
"Come sit down."
I beckoned her to one of the two chairs and pulled it out for her. She sat down and I pushed it in for her and sat down in my seat.
I could feel beads of sweat forming, but they were washed away with the wind.
"Like what you see?"
She asked and I immidiately turned away. I could feel my face start to burn.
Onyx came in and set down the menus and proceeded to ask what we would like to drink. I answered with (Favorite drink) and she with sweet tea.
He left and I hid my face behind my menu.
I heard a giggle and peeked over the top to see her smiling in my direction.
Not to long after Onyx came back with the drinks and took our orders.
From then on everything became a blur. From the laughs we shared over dinner, to our most embarrassing stories from when we were kids.
In this short amount of time we bonded and it felt like we knew everything about each other.
Now came the hard part.
We had both stood and were standing at the railing of the balcony staring up into the starlit night, pointing out constellations that we could somewhat remember.
I took a step back and stood right behind her.
My lips nearly grazed her ear as these words were spoken.
"Lovina, I have a question I would like to ask you."
She spun around and the scene was perfect again.
The moon light was hitting her creating a soft glow over her and her face.
"Yes?" Her voice was again carried with the wind.
I slowly went down on one knee and held the ring box in my hands.
I looked up at her.
"Lovina, since the moment I first bumped into you at school until now, there was an unberable sensation that seemed to course through me. I didn't know whether it was a friendship or something more than that. As we progressed on and I was sent off to the hospital, I realized, it was something more. It was.... Beautiful, magical.... I couldn't explain it even if I tried..... What I'm trying to say is that I love you. I have always loved you from the moment I laid eyes on you. I would be the happiest man in the world, but only if you're happy. Lovina Vargas, would you do the honor of making me one of the happiest men on this planet, and marry me?"
I was out of breath. I couldn't quite comprhend what was going on at this point.
But what I did know was that the face I saw appear on her was one that I will never forget.
