CHAPTER EIGHT
Countdown 2 Days (Part II)
Father had made a splendid meal at home for lunch. There were steak, fries, salad, fruit platter, fried fish, and spaghetti with tomato sauce and seafood soup. To compliment, he even took out five types of sauces. But of course I do know the splendid meal was a welcome lunch for Aunt Eileen. She had been staying away for as long as I remember because even when Mother was alive, she didn't like her too.And here I am seating with Father and Aunt Eileen on the dining table with so much food that even with Darrell around, we won't be able to finish.
"What a splendid!" Aunt Eileen exclaimed at the food served in front of her. She smiled in satisfaction before observing the setting.
Aunt Eileen frowned as she turned to Father, "There's only three setting?"
Father shrugged as he looked at me for answer.
"Your fiance is not coming for lunch?" Aunt Eileen questioned.
I shook my head as I continued eating the piece of fried fish in my plate. The fish is crispy on the outside while it's soft and tender with the fresh taste. Father was a good cook; he always made very delicious food. I heard from my parents before that Father learnt cooking from my Grandma since young.
"Susanne!" Then, the drama started when Aunt Eileen start raising her voice.
I frowned but I still remained silent.
"Put down the fried fish." She insisted as she stared at me.
My eyes watched Father whom looked away. Obviously, he was trying to stay out of trouble as much as he could when it comes to Aunt Eileen.
I turned to Aunt Eileen, "I thought I shook my head means No"
"That's not a satisfying answer."
I raised my eyebrow, "What do I need to give for a satisfying answer to an aunt?"
"Susanne, that's not how you talk to your elders."
"Apparently, that's how I talk"
Aunt Eileen breathed in deeply as she slammed the fork on the table. Father got startled as he looked at us in shock.
"Today, I will teach you on behalf of your Father how to have your manners."
I smirked, "I think that you forgot this is not your house."
She stared back at me, "Your father have to listen to me so do you."
"We have mutual respect here in the household so you adapt the culture if you are staying."
"Okay, enough Sus" Father finally speak up.
I turned towards him, "I thought you were going to turn deafening ears and not bother about this unreasonable woman's behaviour?"
"Sus!" Father exclaimed with his eyes stared in shock at my words.
"How am I supposed to have her at my wedding when she can't behave herself at our place?" I frowned while I continued blabbered the insulting words.
"This is not how you talk!" Then a slap landed on my face.
I stared blankly for a few seconds before turning towards Aunt Eileen. She was staring at me with fuming eyes. Her breathing was inconsistent as she caught herself in anger and tears.
