Jenna's P.O.V.
I hate today. Today is the worst day ever. You wanna know why?
Well I'm going to tell you why!
I'm moving.
OK that sounded much better in my head. Let me start over.
I'm Jenna Lewis. I'm sixteen years old and I live in Pennsylvania with my mother and my grandmother. I'm not sure who my father is because my mother hates when I bring him up and my family wasn't close to him so I don't know much about him.
I have a golden retriever named Rover and a turtle named Lola. She's really for my grandmother but I consider her mine.
We are packing to go to the airport because I'm moving to California. I'm actually dreading this day and I wish my mom hadn't gotten a job all the way in California. My mom is a photographer by the way and a History teacher but she got a good paying job in Cali as a photographer and considering that we're late on paying our landlord, I'd take a guess and say that maybe this was a good idea after all or else we'd probably live on the streets.
As I place my personal items in a box I hear something crash. I rush down the stairs in a panic only to see that Rover had ran in the house with his dirty muddy paws which, I'm assuming, caused grandma to drop her glass of orange juice.
My mother grabs Rover by his collar and carries him back outside before cleaning up the broken glass."Dumb mutt," I hear grandma mutter causing me to snicker as I go back upstairs to finish packing.
After I had placed my shoes in one box and my clothes in another I heard the doorbell ring and the opening and closing of the front door.
Light footsteps sounded and entered my room. A pair of pale small arms wrapped around me and I smiled and turned around to face my best friend, Deena."I can't believe your moving in less than two hours," she frowned and I smiled sadly at her.
"I know right. Honestly I don't wanna be the new girl. It was already hard for me to adjust here, imagine moving all the way to California,"
"Yes chica, I know how you feel,"
"You do?"
"No, I'm just trying to make you feel better,"
I smacked her playfully on the arm before wrapping her into a warm hug. Soon I started to cry at the realization.
I would be in a school full of strangers without my best friend. I mean I could barely survive a day in school when she was out sick.
How was I supposed to survive a whole year without her?
"I'm going to miss you so much," I whispered as I squeezed her tighter and wept softly onto her fire- man red long- sleeve.
I let go of her and looked at her and I suddenly regretted it because her eyes were now glassy with tears and I hated to see my best friend cry.
I hugged her tighter and we both started to cry for a good 5 minutes."Jenna, we're ready to go! The movers are coming up to your room in a few to help with the boxes," I heard my mother shout from downstairs.
"Uh, OK I'm coming!"
I looked at Deena and she wiped my tears.
"We're going to be OK, alright?" She told me as she grabbed my shoes box and I grabbed my clothes box.
When the movers came up, there was a bunch of going upstairs and coming back down until the house looked like it did when we first moved in. As my mom held the last box in her hands, she gave me the key to lock up. As I looked inside the house one last time, a salty tear slid down my cheek."Goodbye," I whispered to the air and I locked up the house.
I said a goodbye to Deena as she walked home in tears and I gave the key to the landlord. As I got in the car we drove off and the movers followed behind us but then they made a quick turn to go to a place where our items would be shipped off to California.I popped a fresh mint into my mouth and drank my Pepsi, leaving a fizzy feeling in mouth. I gave Granny Dona one and she happily took it.
As we arrived at the airport, my hear started to beat fast. This was it. No more Pennsylvania. Just sunshiny California.
