Lunch came quicker than usual. The boisterous chatter of the students filled Evan's ears as he and Ellie dodged through the crowd. The lunch lady sneered at them before tossing what looked like bread with mold and an apple. Evan guided his sister through the crowd, careful to avoid others. He led his sister outside, away from all of the hateful glares and towards there normal sitting area. A tall tree with an old but sturdy bench in front of it. Nobody sat near it as they believed it to be infected because of the Smith twins.
Evan's stomach grumbled at the sight of the apple however he handed it to his sister first. She was practically a walking skeleton. Hate bubbled within Evan as he thought to his foster parents. They were pathetic excuses for parents. He felt regret tug at his heart, he should have taken the belt, his sister shouldn't have to go through as much pain as she does.
'Maybe... I can get the pain to stop' he thought.
Ellie swiftly took a bite out of the apple, the juices flowing down her throat. It was the most she had eaten in 4 days. She quickly took another bite before handing the apple back to Evan. Ellie thought disgustingly back to her peers.
'Those ungrateful bitches, what did we do to deserve such hate?' She thought while glaring over at the door that led to the cafeteria.
She gently leaned her head on Evan's shoulder and shut her eyes. Sometimes when she closed her eyes, she imagined her and Evan with a loving family, with parents that loved them, with friends, she knew she was only kidding herself but she couldn't help but dream.
"Ellie, I'll be right back. I'm going to go and grab another apple, you looked starved" she heard her brother murmur before walking off. He didn't feel comfortable leaving his sister alone but he knew that she needed food.
The sound of clicking interrupted her thoughts. Her eyes opened to see Shelby standing there, hands on her hips and a smirk on her caked face. Behind her stood her minions Jenny and Crystal.
"Aww look at what we have here girls" Shelby spoke, her voice causing Ellie's ears to hurt.
"Grab her"
Her eyes widened as her arms were grabbed in a bruising grip. Her mouth was covered by a perfectly manicured hand and she tried fighting. The rumbling sounds of thunder covered her muffled screams. They dragged her over towards the back of the school, away from prying eyes.
"You know, I always hated you. I mean like seriously, you come walking into my school looking like a piece of trash off the side walk and think we weren't going to do anything? You are nothing more than a suicidal bitch" Shelby hissed.
She gave a swift nod to the other girls and they all started beating her. Kicking, scratching, punching basically any part of her they could. They were like lions preying on a gazelle. Ellie couldn't feel anything but pain. Blood ran down her forehead as they continuously continued their attack. Tears ran down her cheeks as she whimpered.
The thunder roared louder than ever, as rain slowly started to fall. The girls quickly stopped their attack and ran back inside, protecting their hair. Ellie laid there, hurt and broken as the rain gently cascaded over her. Dark spots appeared before her eyes. She could hear fast approaching footsteps and the familiar sound of her brothers voice, screaming her name. As her eyes gently fluttered closed, her mind recoiled back to what Evan had said.
"Hush little baby, don't say a word, Brothers gonna buy you a mockingbird"
