∆ SEVEN (2): More Than Friends ∆

Most people would think that the famous 3 words; I Love You, were the greatest thing anyone would hear but for the people dressed in their thickest clothes it was: "Let's rest muna"

Tita Kat, their boss throughout the duration of their stay for the OTWOL was very accommodating and terrifyingly observant as proven by her order to have everyone rest in a corner of the airport. She saw Nadine drag her legs and James slouching and slowing down so she lead everyone to a quiet side of the airport and told everyone to drop their bags.

Nadine immediately sat down on the trolley that Barbie was pushing and leaned her head on top of her knuckles. James dropped his duffel bag in the cart he was pushing and sat on the cart handle beside Nadine whose eyes were closed. Her legs were shaking from exhaustion and her head was pounding and the 20° temperature was not helping her body. On the other hand, James' right shoulder was aching and he felt his lamig worsening and wished that they were in their hotel already so Nadine can massage it. He discovered Nadine's ability to remove lamig during one of their OTWOL tapings wherein they had to take numerous takes because he and Nadine could not stop laughing for the sabaw reason that Nadine was horribly massage-acting.

Everyone else around the couple sat on the floor and discussed more plans for later's taping and meet-and-greet. James was oblivious to the hushed conversations as he stared in to space while Nadine was trying very hard not fall asleep but failed when her head suddenly dropped sideways. She straightened up immediately but went back to her previous position with her head leaning heavily on her knuckles. James, drained of energy, simply looked at Nadine who was staring in to space and found his heart beating faster and the sudden urge to touch her surfaced.

Nadine, from the corner of her eye saw James looking at her and looked at him too and managed a close-lipped smile and stretched her other arm and placed it over her other knee so it was now beside James' legs.

Wordlessly, James reached out to touch the black and gold bracelet peeking from the ends of her black jacket. He remembered the day they got it.

It was Christmas Eve and James had a flight to catch in 6 hours and yet he was going around a mall trailing after a woman dressed in all black and was sporting a face mask. He was enjoying the trip however as he had bought much needed new clothes and gifts that Nadine said she would wrap later when they get back to his condo unit. She was going to sleep over (and will sleeping in the guestroom) because they wanted to spend their Christmas break together as much as possible before he had to leave. It wasn't like they haven't slept in the same unit, in fact he was pretty sure half of his closet is occupied by Nadine's extra clothes.

They were in the counter, trying to ignore the squeals and murmurs of the people inside the store as well as the people behind the counter when a gold and black rubber bracelet caught James' eye. He took it out of its hook and saw that it was a simple black bracelet with gold linings.

"Ano yan?" Nadine asked the guy beside her and leaning closer to him to see the package he was staring intently at.

"Bracelet. It's nice. Simple." James said to which Nadine simply nodded at. They were tired already and wanted to leave as soon as possible before more people notices them. Stupid face mask, it didnt even work, she thought.

Finally the woman behind the counter finished adding up her purchases and just as she was about to hand her credit card a warm hand wrapped around her wrist and another hand slid 2 packages across the counter.

"I'll pay for these."

Later that night as she got the wrappers she needed for the things she bought, James gave her the bracelet he was eyeing in H&M and her eyes zeroed in on a matching one on his left wrist.

"So we'll match" was all he said.

James smiled quickly at the memory as he continued to play with the bracelet and made his face blank again. He didnt want anyone asking him why he was smiling as he was tired.

Nadine stared at James then at his fingers which were now tapping rhythmically against her wrist, a soft smile on her face which James saw from the corner of his eye.

Nowadays they didnt they need to speak what they wanted to say, they only had to look at the other and a silent conversation would start and the people around their bubble would feel like they were intruding something.

Nowadays the crew would give them knowing smiles and the teasing leveled up.

Nowadays they have been unconsciously touching each other like a squeeze on the shoulder, a nose too close to a cheek, or a leg pressed against the other.

Nowadays they are more than friends.

Next update is ... on a delayed flight. For how long, it depends on the storm inside my head ✌
