Chapter 1
"WHERE WE START?"
There once was, in a far and distant corner of the universe, where no one even knew anything existed, least of all
a small featureless little planet, named Globie.
She was a young, innocent little planet without so much as a single feature anywhere on her surface, nothing but a smooth and perfect layer of fine clean dirt.
She was reddish-brown in color and smooth as a marble, not so much as a
single blemish.
She lived there with her best friend Sunny, who was a small and not so bright, dim little star. Sunny was much older than Globie and had been alone for the longest time until Globie was formed from gasses and loose particles, and pulled into Sunny's gravitational orbit.
Ever since Sunny has looked over Globie making sure she is kept warm and out of the dark. They have been the closest and best of friends ever since.
Globie was always asking questions about everything.
Sunny would answer as best he could somethings he did not know or have answers to. Globie was quite curious about everything in the universe.
Together they spent every day circling around each other and talking back and forth about
everything. Globie had a great curious nature and wanted to learn everything she could
from Sunny. Because they were so far from anything else in the universe, they had never known anything other than each other. Nothing ever came their way to discover.
The two shared a very close bond and could not ever imagine being without the other.
One day Sunny noticed that Globie had started looking sad and had become quiet and withdrawn and had lost the curious sparkle in her eyes. She wasn't being her inquisitive self, Sunny realized that something was not right with her and was weighing on her mind. She had not been her cheerful self for days.
"Globie, why are you so sad?" asked Sunny, "what is wrong." There was a silent pause and then Globie responded.
"I just feel as though my life has no meaning or purpose," Globie replied.
"I don't have anything important to do, I don't really have 'anything' to do.
I'm just a ball of dirt and all I do is spin on the same course day after day, year after year, eon after eon." Never changes, nothing ever happens to me. When will I develop into something more?
Isn't there more to life, she wondered silently. Was this all she would ever accomplish?
would all her dreams and desires, be just that dreams?
Sunny thought for a minute and then said, "Well, I'm in the same boat, Globie."
"No you're not," said Globie, "you are a star and you have plenty to do.
If it wasn't for you combusting all your gases and fusing your atoms I wouldn't be able
to keep warm and we'd both be without any light to see.
Plus, you've been around so much longer than I have and have seen so much more."
"Hmmm," thought Sunny, "yes you are right, but i've only seen it all from a distance, and i too have had these same feelings, of when will my life have it's purpose, but then you came into my life and I felt you had become my purpose." Globie sighed and looked up at Sunny feeling a sense of great comfort that he was there for her, but she still could not not erase these feeling deep inside her.
She responds to Sunny " I am so happy you are my best friend and you have shared and given me so much, but why am a I still a small ball of dirt? Why is there nothing above me, nothing on me, nothing growing on me, I can't even support any life on me. I'm nothing but a smooth ball of dirt, not even so much as an atmosphere or a blemish'
" Sunny knew this was something he had no ability to do anything about, he knew he couldn't argue with that. So he tried a different approach, "Globie, it's not what you do that makes you somebody, it is who you are, what comes from inside you, the life you have inside you is greater than the life you have outside."
"But Who am I?" she thought silently again. "All I ever do is circle around you all day and all night." She says to Sunny. Hoping saying that, did not hurt his feelings, as she loved Sunny very much.
She knew there was something missing, something very important. She had a strong desire to contribute something, somehow, somewhere to her existence and to her relationship with Sunny.
Globie asked "how can I be somebody if I have never done anything?
I want to have a life that is active and gives me things to do, and gives me something I can give and share with others.
I want responsibilities and a purpose. I want to feel like I am needed for something,
I don't want to just exist, or just a tag along in life, I want make something of myself, I want my dreams come true too."
It was then Sunny shared something he too felt. He told Globie, " you know Globie I too have dreams, I dream one day of being a big, bright, firing star, that could be seen in the constellations of the universe, but I know I am a dim lit little star that is not bright enough to be seen from any where. I too feel less than I could be, i do not feel I am a real star, I too feel insignificant."
There was a quiet silence between them. Globie didn't know what to say, realizing Sunny had all the same feelings and so they both just drifted along in their orbit, quietly thinking, for quite some time. Both sinking into despair and emptiness.
Globie finally broke the silence and said, "You know, I wish we could just take off and go on a quest and maybe find something in life that fills both our dreams."
Sunny thought that was a great idea! But said it probably wasn't possible.
"Why not?" Globie asked.
Sunny explained that they were in an orbit that simply repeated itself over and over again, and that somehow they would need to break free of it.
"But how?" asked Globie.
Yes if we only could, the. We could go out and discover, said Sunny. Globie then asked what if it is really scary out there? What if it is filled with dangers?
Sunny replied if we really want to find our dreams I think we need first overcome our fears. Globie thought for a minute the. Agreed and said she was willing to risk it if they could figure out a way to break free from their orbit. So they both started thinking...
Sunny and Globie talked about idea after idea, but none of them seemed like they would work. Then Globie had a brilliant idea!
"What if we countered the magnetized pull we have with each other, and used centrifugal force by swinging ourselves faster and faster and maybe we can break free of our orbit and whirl ourselves out into the Universe?" Asked Globie.
Let's hang on to each other and start swinging and see what happens. Maybe we can
build up enough power and speed together to swing ourselves out of this orbit and set ourselves free" said Globie.
"What a great idea!" exclaimed Sunny. "it's worth a try"
So they began swinging and swinging, faster and faster, round and around, and the faster they went, the more force it created until suddenly swoooooosssshhhh..
they went FLYING out of their orbits. Globie yelled out a loud "Forward and Onward!!!!" As they broke free from their orbit. Both Sunny and Globie let out loud whoo-hoos!
and yippees! as they went flying out and began sailing into the unknown.
Gleaming with excitement and thrilled by the rush, they went flying into the open
universe, unknowing what lay ahead and what they would encounter...
