  Chapter 4

Journey into Darkness

They both quietly wrapped themselves in their own thoughts as the excitement
of the day and the depth of their journey laid heavily on them. Soon they drifted off to sleep.
It wasn't until Globie felt a cool breeze, that they both woke up and looked at each other questionably, wondering where the coldness was coming from.
Looking all around they turned and saw a large, glowing object flying their way. It had
a beautiful tail trailing behind it and they heard singing and whistling.
As the shimmering light got close enough, one of them asked, "Who are you?"
The large bright ball of glowing ice said, "I am Mr. Comet, the traveling showman of the Universe. I'm the brightest falling star you'll ever see," he shouted.
"Although I'm really not a star," he winked and said, "Don't tell anybody, okay?"
flashing a big bright grin.
"Follow me," he said. "I'll take you to all the stars and planets, from one end of the
Universe to the other because I follow no one. I'm a one-man show.
Follow me, I can't stop because I'm Mr. Comet. I have the looooonnnggest tail of all.
So I have to keep going, gotta keep up my speed, for the length of my tail is my gift for you to see!"
Sunny and Globie tried to keep up with the friendly entertaining Comet but he was too swift and so they said, "Thanks for the show and good luck!"
"You're welcome," replied Mr. Comet. "I'll see you on my way back, but the show must
go on!"
Sunny and Globie smiled and both agreed that Mr. Comet was a cheery fellow as they
both flew past his tail of glittering ice dust.
"We've really met some interesting characters along the way, haven't we?" Globie
coaxed. "We sure have," chimed in Sunny.
The two of them pondered all the places Mr. Comet might have been and all the things he must have seen, and the stories he could tell. Wondering if they too would also get to see more fascinating things.
After Mr. Comet was completely out of sight and they were back to just the two of them, they couldn't help but think about where it was they would end up and if
they ever would find their place again in this huge universe.
All this excitement that had woken them from their slumber earlier, had now taken its toll and they were quickly falling back to sleep once again.
Unbeknownst to them, During their sleep they began drifting into something that was getting darker and darker.
Little by little everything was beginning to disappear, but they were sound
asleep and were totally unaware of the danger looming ahead.
This time it was Sunny who noticed that he was starting to cool down and awoke to
find his light getting dimmer and dimmer. Quickly he thought of waking little
Globie, but she was already starting to wake up due to the chill.
Startled and confused, Globie woke up a bit groggy, "What's going on?" she asked.
"What's the matter?, why's it getting cold? is Mr. Comet back?
They both felt themselves being pulled faster and faster and deeper and deeper
into something very, very dark and mysterious.
Sunny had no idea what was happening but told Globie that they were being sucked
into something and they needed to pull themselves out of it. Now Globie was
really scared, because she knew Sunny was also scared.
"Come on Globie, spin! Let's get out of here!" shouted Sunny.
But no matter how hard they spun or what they did to try and get out of the darkness,
they just kept going in deeper and deeper. It had gotten so dark that Globie could no longer see Sunny.
Sunny's light had been completely sucked away by the powerful grip of the darkness.
"Help Sunny! Help!! Where are you?" cried Globie.
Sunny was doing all he could, but couldn't find Globie and there was nothing he could do now. The two of them were no longer together. For the first time in their lives they were separated and in complete darkness, something neither of them had ever experienced.
They could no longer see nor hear anything, but could feel the power of something
pulling them in.
And then the pelting began, left and right, from the front and behind, coming in from
every which way. They had no power to dodge or dart any of it because it was so dark. Their fear was mounting as it got darker and darker,
so dark they didn't know if they were going to survive this. Never had Globie or Sunny experienced such fear and terror. Never had they ever been in such pitch
blackness, they felt so alone. Little by little they lost touch with each other and soon for the first time the two best of friends were seperated, each one alone and no way of knowing where or what was happening to the other. Globie cried out for Sunny but not even sound could be heard, it had become a total void. Globie was now completely alone for the first time in her entire life, she was filled with fear and heartache for Sunny. She now wished none of this had ever happened and she wished it was all a bad dream, and that she would soon wake from and find herself back in her little safe boring orbit with Sunny at her side, but it wasn't a dream it was really happening, this was for real and she knew it...she cried and shivered with fear.
Globie thought they were going to die, because of her dreams and desires, their quest for something more out of life, they were now going to lose everything, maybe even their lives.
Their desire for a better life was now going to be their death. Sunny, her only friend,
would now lose his life because she wanted something more for herself,
something she now thought was selfish. Sunny, being a true friend, only wanted to help her find that something and travel the journey with her so she wouldn't be alone.
Now she'd give anything to just be a bored, lifeless, faceless planet if she could only have Sunny back. She cried and cried, everything inside her little heart was hurting and weighted down with remorse. she had learned the most valuable lesson in life: while dreams are important, the "most" important things in life are those we love and love us.
Globie was weeping and sobbing so deeply for her friend Sunny.
She felt it was all her fault Sunny was now gone, she had lost her best friend,
the most important thing in her life, more important than all her dreams.
All this time Sunny too was feeling his fears that Globie was hurt or all alone and lost. But soon he realized his light and glow were slowly coming back he got an idea. Maybe if he started blinking if Globie was out there she might notice him. So he started blinking in every pattern he could think of to draw attention to himself and began yelling out "GLOBIE!!!" "GLOBIE!!"
All the while Globie just cried and cried and wished none of this had ever happened.
she was so overwhelmed with tears and sadness, that she did not notice that the darkness was lifting, and that in the distance was a blinking little light.
When Globie opened her eyes she saw so many stars arranged in a way she had never seen them before she was disoriented, she no longer recognized the universe, but then the little blinking light caught Globie's attention.
She stared at it and wondered why none of the other stars were blinking, surely it must
be doing it for a reason, so she decided to head in it's direction.
As she got closer she thought she was hearing her name, but who would know her name?
As she got closer and closer she began toi think, could it be Sunny?
The thought of it being Sunny filled her with glee and excitement that she hurried
as fast as she could fly, she raced torwards it.
Soon she could hear Sunny's voice calling out to her.
"Globie! Globie! Where are you?"
There, straight ahead, was Sunny. blinking away, fluttering with the little flame he had left.
"SUNNY!" she yelled out "which one is you? Sunny signaled with a bright little
twinkle and Globie exclaimed with a joy like she had never felt before.
"SUNNY, SUNNY!!" she yelled racing over to him.
"GLOBIE! They hugged and hugged for the longest time.
"You're alive! You're alive!" they both echoed.
Once again, the two best friends were back together!
Exhausted and beat-up by their experience and frightened by the mysterious darkness, they talked about everything they had been through and realized that they
were no longer where they belonged and were adrift and lost, and that nothing was the
same anymore, and that they would never get to see their home orbit again.
Globie asked Sunny if he knew what had happened. Sunny explained that they had just been sucked through a Black Hole and for some unknown reason they had
been spit out the other end and now really didn't know where they were.
The dream they had once shared now seemed shattered and had turned into a nightmare.
Lost in an unknown place, Globie now wished they had just stayed where they once were.
She'd now give anything to just be back in her old boring orbit.
Sunny could see that Globie was really feeling bad and full of guilt about getting into this
dreadful situation, so he tried to comfort her and said that maybe they should just get some rest and they would feel better, but he too knew they were in trouble.
He didn't know where they were, nothing looked familiar and certainly didn't know how
to get back. Exhausted, tattered, and road weary the two friends were now completely lost in the giant Universe. Their dream of finding something had left them lost and empty. Globie's appearance, bruised and battered, cratered and cracked, chipped and pelted, reflected her spirits.
Sunny, too, was now only a flicker of a star, more dim than he had ever been before. They were both looking and feeling their most beat and battered, almost unrecognizable from their previous selves. It all seemed so lost and bleak.
With these somber thoughts they clung to each other drained from the experience and began to once again drift off into space, this time feeling empty, hopeless, and
shadowed by gloom, no longer filled with excitement and wonder.
They were no longer so excited and the "forward and onward" spirit was gone
and so were their dreams. So tired and distraught that they both just wanted to get some sleep and wake up to what they hoped was just a bad dream.
For the first time they both felt truly hopeless and lost, especially Globie for she was
now feeling it was all her fault for having put her best friend Sunny in this perdictament.
Sunny wanting to be supportive of Globie and help her attain her dreams and desires would do anything for Globie and knew she couldn't or would go it alone.
So now here they were at their bleakest hour, all but given up, feeling sad and sorry
for themselves. Nobody could have it so bad, Globie was covered with craters,
cracks, canyons, and creased-up ridges from her north pole to her south.
Sunny was now but a flicker of his old self, dimmer than ever, both feeling quite empty
except for the sadness that filled their hearts....
