Chapter 2
Unknown Fears
Sunny and Globie were so happy and excited. They were also filled with curiosity about
what they might find in the unknown cosmos.
There were so many galaxies everywhere they looked. Millions and millions of galaxies of every size and shape and colors, filling the universe. More than they had ever imagined.
After all of their whooping and carrying on they both began to gaze at the beauty all
around them. Free of their orbit they could now go anywhere.
Onward they sailed in quiet awe, pondering the mysteries that filled the heavens.
Mesmerized by the vast beauty that appeared before them. Excited by what might find and see.
There were constellations and galaxies everywhere they looked, filling all the universe
with billions of lights. They were so captured by the beauty and vastness of it all that they hadn't noticed that in the distance there was a faint rumbling sound out there in the darkness that was getting closer and louder.
When the sound got loud enough where they could hear it, they knew then that whatever it was, it probably was now getting close to them. Globie looked up and saw a cluster of large iron core boulders of rocks coming straight at them. Before they had time to react they were caught in their path, and they came in fast... A shower of shooting lights approaching them.
She thought they looked really cool with their bright streaks of light, but she didn't know
what they were. Neither of them realized they might actually be in danger
until the ground on Globie's surface began to dance from the vibration of the sound.
Globie was quivering and shaking up dust everywhere. It was then that she
began to worry...
There was no place to hide, no time to move out of the way, and before they knew it,
they were caught right in the path of this rumbling gang of rebel outlaw asteroids.
Fortunately, most of them just whizzed by them, but then some started coming directly at both Globie and Sunny.
Because of Globie and Sunny's gravitational pull, many were crashing into and hitting them,"Oh, no," yelled Sunny. All the asteroids were breaking up into smaller fragments and now are hundreds of meteorites as they came crashing and burning up into them.
Suddenly, they were being pelted with hundreds of hot, stinging balls of molten nickel
and iron, flying at them from every which way.
Sunny's hot and burning atmosphere completely burned them out upon entry, so he did not feel the sting of them, but he knew Globie would be hurt so he shouted to Globie to try and dodge them or else they would crash into her, knowing they would not burn out, because Globie had no atmosphere to protect her. But no matter what she did to escape, they seemed to just continue to crash onto her surface.
Meteors in glowing shades of dazzling silvery blue, luminous purple, and piercing hot
white were crashing into Globie.
No matter what Globie tried to do these beautiful, yet malicious meteors kept
crashing onto her.
It was like being in the middle of a hailstorm the size of rocks and some the size
of huge bolders!
"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!!" Globie shouted. "these things hurt!."
"Sorry," said a meteor, quite out of breath from its breakneck speed, "We were on a
mission, and you crossed our orbit.
Your gravitational pull has drawn us even more towards you and now we can't stop!"
Globie cried out to Sunny for help, but he was still being hit too, and was busy
burning them all off, as quickly as he could.
Still he knew he had to help Globie. Sunny first had to get himself to a place
where he could best pull the path of the asteroids away from Globie. Once he did that
Sunny could use use stronger gravitational force to pull the asteroids away from Globie's path
so she could escape the asteroids and meteoroids. So he flexed all his gravitational force and pulled and pulled as many as he could away from Globie. Once he was able to do that
he began using the strength of his gravitational pull to pull Globie to
safety. After a few attempts he was finally successful,
and Globie was out of harms way, and the remaining asteroids went flying by continuing on their way.
When it was all over Globie was left bruised and battered. She had chips, bumps, bruises, and craters, little ones and big ones, some left her cut and bleeding, oozing with molten magma. Sunny knew that the molten lava would soon cool and harden and form small mountain-like ranges or ridges on Globie's surface. Even though he knew she was hurt and feeling a little pain, he knew she would be alright. The sores would soon heal.
She was going to be okay.
Although Sunny knew Globie was a bit stung, he couldn't help but let out a little chuckle.
"Globie, you're starting to look a little bit scruffy," teased Sunny.
Globie looked over all her bumps and scrapes and exclaimed, "I'm not sure this is what I had in mind at all."
"Well, one thing is for sure, you're no longer featureless." said Sunny with a big smile.
"What were those things anyway?" asked Globie breathlessly.
"Well, they started out as asteroids, which are left over rock debris that have orbits of their own. They fly through space sometimes crashing into other stuff like planets and stars.
Asteroids are known as the rebel rockers. Some of them travel billions of miles. Once they reached our atmosphere they turn into hot, flaming meteorites.
I was able to burn them off with my gases, but too many of them broke up and turned into meteors and crashed into your surface," replied Sunny.
"Why were they chasing me?" Globie questioned.
"Your gravitational pull is like a magnet. Once they entered your gravitational field, they
were totally out of their own control and couldn't break loose from you even if they
wanted to.
So, the more you struggled to get away, the stronger the pull became. It was an experience,
that's for sure!" explained Sunny.
"We were pretty lucky to have survived them, huh?" Exclaimed Globie.
"Yes, we were," said Sunny.
"We're going to have to pay a little more attention to where we are going now that we're
out here, you never know what we'll encounter next."
Globie clearly had a look of worry on her face, fearing what they had gotten themselves into.
Maybe this is not going to be all fun and games after all.
Adventures do have a worrisome side, Globie pondered silently.
"I hope this hasn't been a mistake" murmered Globie.
"Don't worry," said Sunny, "we'll be okay. We just have to pay attention."As Globie was
re-examining her bumps and scrapes, they both were now going to be a little more cautious.
Sunny continued, "Well, let's get on our way then, okay?"
"LETS GO, Forward and Onward!!" chimed Globie, wearing her newfound features like a badge of honor.
Forward and onward they went.
