The bus doors creaked open half way, causing me to push them open the rest of the way. I stepped outside and closed my eyes against the glaring of the sun, which just so happened to be right above the place I’ll be living in for the next couple of years. I put my sunglasses on and squinted at the God forsaken institution.
It was elegantly cold looking, much like my parents’ masked faces. The bricks of the many buildings were a soft grey tone, topped with an even bleaker looking dark grey roof. I could see small tendrils of plants trying to crawl up the two story buildings, a welcome amount of green amongst the sea of grey. The windows were all stain-glassed, all with their accompanying iron bars on the outside. I smirked at these, realizing that security may be a bit trickier than I thought.
There were no people about - students of teachers, which gave me the chance to look around the grounds freely. The grass was well maintained, as were the flowers and shrubbery. By the looks of it, the bus driver has dropped me off at the wrong stop. This doesn’t look like the school for teenage delinquents, more like a setting for the traveling antique show. It’s quaint, but cold.
Before I could ponder my surroundings anymore, the bus driver hurled himself out of the bus and barged straight past me and towards the luggage compartment. I got a whiff of his stench and openly gagged in front of him. I doubled over and put my head between my knees to try and get some fresh air whilst he grunted beside me, dragging my luggage out of the side of the bus.
Footsteps sounded in front of my on the white pebble-stone walkway. I looked up to see a frail man of about sixty standing in front of me with a cane, frowning at me. I scowled at him and stood up straight. He tsked at my clothing before he spoke.
“Dear Ava, you have unfortunately failed two tests for the day. You have not worn the school uniform, as I had instructed your parents, and you have disgraced yourself by showing disgust so openly in front of others. You have not carried on in a very lady-like manner, Miss Parkes. I am very disappointed. Please, grab your belongings and follow me.” The old man in the simple grey suit and cane turned from me and began walking to the nearest building - presumably the administration building. Slightly amused, I looked down at my ripped jeans, chains hanging from my belt, my Senses Fail shirt and beautiful All Star Converse shoes. My hair was wavy and loose, probably a mess. I shrugged and grabbed my two suitcases off the fat man and ran to catch up with the old man.
Once inside the building, the old man led me into an office, handed me a class schedule, a map, and a key to a dorm room.
“Now,” He said, taking a seat behind a desk. He motioned for me to sit as well and I followed suit. “My name is Mr Kronos, but you can call me Sir. I am headmaster here, and I see and hear everything that goes on in this finely built institution. We are here to help you, Miss Parkes, become a better person and fulfill what you want to achieve in life...” I tuned his quiet voice out and nodded when he paused to take breaths. I don’t care! I’ll be out of here soon enough.
Mr Kronos chuckled and smiled at me. I tuned in and cocked my head to the side. He continued.
“As I was saying, the dorms consist of four people. The rooms are quite spacious, housing four double beds within one vicinity. There are two bathrooms per dorm room, and the cafeteria provides you with all of your food and liquid beverages. Of course, we know you may need coffee and tea to rouse you from your slumbers, so we have provided all of the items you will need. I shall call upon someone to become your mentor and show you to your room, if you like?” He finished with a question. I shook my head and smiled.
“Oh, no thank you. I’m pretty sure I can find my way to a room. Cheers though. Can I go now?” I stood up without waiting for an answer. The headmaster simply sighed and gestured to the door.
