The psycho ear-biter released my lobe and moved his face away from mine. I stared at his cold and emotionless face, trying in vain to see what the hell his problem was. He stared back at me, unblinking, his eyes frozen like ice.
The door knob of the room jiggled, and the boy jumped off me suddenly. He moved to his bed and stood next to it just as the door opened and Vivienne walked in. She stopped in her tracks when she saw who was in the room with me. She smiled nervously at him, then turned to me.
“All settled?” She chippered nervously, still standing in the doorway. I refused to look away from her to see what that weirdo was doing, but I had the uncanny feeling that he was staring at me. I smiled brightly at Viv and nodded.
“Yup, and now I’m ready to get some food!” I stood up and moved quickly to the door, quickly ushering her out and slamming the door behind us. Viv chuckled next to me, apparently sensing my discomfort.
“So I see you’ve met your new roommate, Silas.”
“Who, that thing? It has a name? God forbid it should resemble something remotely human.” I spat, grabbing my phone from my pocket and checking the time. 4.45pm.
“What time do they serve food in the cafeteria? I’m presuming there is one?” I asked. Vivienne smiled and linked her arm with mine before leading me out the door.
“Yup. The cafeteria serves breakfast at 7.30am, lunch at noon, and dinner at 6.30pm. If you should find yourself peckish before or after those times, they serve fruit and healthy stuff all day long.” She replied happily, a bounce in her step. She led me through the maze of corridors in the large building until we reached a huge staircase which lead to what I think they call their cafeteria. It was massive! About 50 tables seating six to eight people, adorned with elegant silverware and china. Students served themselves by the look of it, but were obviously expected to behave whilst eating.
What, no food fights?
Bummer..
My mouth must have been open, for Vivienne shut it for me with a giggle. My stomach growled and she giggled more. I groaned suddenly.
“What’s wrong? Did I upset you by laughing at you?” Vivienne grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me, her big blue eyes staring right into mine. I shook my head.
“I don’t have any cash on me. I can’t buy anything.” I mumbled. My parents had said my allowance had been cut off until next week. I was poor. Wow.. ironic. The rich girl’s parents send her away to boarding school.. and all of a sudden she’s poor.
Vivienne laughed again, linking her arm in mine once more. What’s she laughing about? Me going hungry? Real funny Viv..
“You’re so silly! Your parents paid for your enrollment, yes?” She said. I nodded. “Well then they had to pay for every single one of your meals, your uniforms, your books and even your boarding. This school isn’t cheap, love.” Vivienne informed me. So.. I’m here.. and all my meals.. and all that other crap.. are free? Sweet!
I grinned and walked faster to the food.
“Fantastic!” I exclaimed, lining up for some fruit and mineral water.
Whilst in line for food, I looked around me to suss out where the best sitting place was, and also the cliques of the school. My eyes skimmed over uninteresting people, until I saw a boy clad in all black, staring right at me.
Silas?
The boy met my eyes head on and scowled at me before smirking and snapping his teeth at me once. I shuddered and turned away.
