What in the world is wrong with this thing? I looked at everything underneath the car and under the hood. I just don't get it. I need to have this part done now so that way I can test drive it. Cody my friend, why can't you be here. You were always better at pointing out what is wrong with the car. I will never be as good as you at this. I wish you were here then this would go a lot quicker on getting the car fixed up before test driving it.
I grabbed one of the rolling seats off the right side of the garage. I rolled the seat over to the front of the car.I sat down while staring at the car. I try to think about everything that have done to this car. I even checked off things that I knew wasn't the problem. I kept pushing the seat back and forth with my foot waiting for my mind to hurry up. I really just want to solve this problem. I just kept staring at the car just wishing I knew what was wrong with it.
The car that I am working on is for 4-H fair. Every year at the 4-H fair, they have the demolition derby. The demolition derby is where cars smash into other cars. You have to keep it moving no matter what. If the car stops or you stop it to save the car, you are done. The demolition derby has two different categories. There is the Powderpuff and the Standard. Powderpuff is of course for girls. The Standard is for the guys.
This year I decided to run in the Powderpuff. I watched Cody and his friends run in the Standard for a few years now. I know this is part of the reason I started getting into the demolition derby. Even besides having a love for cars. Another reason would be because my uncle has run in it too. So every year my family would go watch my uncle take part in it.
Demolition derby is a big thing in our town. There has always been a huge number of people participating in it. There is also a huge number of people watching in the stands. If you couldn't tell, this is the biggest event during the 4-H week. The only thing is that you can get seriously get hurt from it. We have people on the sides to help spot when the derby is going on.
"What's going on, Nicole?" I turned around to see Nick standing in the garage door way. He still had that Chevy hat on from the other day when I seen him. You can see a little bit of his brown hair poking out underneath of the hat. Since it's warmer out, Nick didn't have his favorite sweatshirt on. He had on his demolition derby shirt with the sleeves ripped off on.
"I can't get the car to run. I looked at everything," I sighed. Nick stepped past me so he could get to the car so he can look at it. He scanned over the engine underneath the hood. After that, he checked everything else that he could think of to check. During all this, I waited patiently for him to tell me what is wrong with my car.
"Have you checked the battery?" Nick turned so he could look at me. Then it hit me. Why didn't I think about that? I probably didn't even think to check the battery at all because I was originally told that it was fine. I shook my head to let him know that I did not check it.
"I should have known to check that even when the person who gave me the car told me it was fine," I sighed. I should have remembered Cody's rule about that. Always check the battery no matter what. If its been sitting for a long while, you might have a dead battery. Of course the car was sitting for a while and we picked it up and putted it on a trailer.
Nick stood there for a minute just wiping his hands on his jeans. He glanced at me and told me real quick that he will be back inside in a minute. He slowly walked past to me. I turned around in my seat to see what Nick was doing. After he went to the back of the dark blue pick up truck, I noticed that he pulled a battery out. Then he came back inside with the battery.
"I had a feeling that someone was going to need a new battery soon. Well it's not really new but it will do for the demolition," Nick carried the battery over to the car, "How about we take a break. I'm assuming you been out here for good while now."
"Thank you for the battery. Taking a break right now sounds perfect to me," I got up out of my seat, "This car has been driving me crazy lately since half the time it takes me longer to figure out what's wrong with it."
"I know what you mean. Since Cody is not around, its been different. You know that he would want us to be happy and live our lives," Nick pulled another seat over next to the seat I was sitting at. He just stared at the car. I know actually what he is thinking. We all wish Cody would randomly walk into the garage and say something about getting our lazy butts back to work. This car needs to start working soon so that way we can fix the little issues before demo time.
After grabbing a water out of the mini fridge, I leaned up against the work bench while I think about what Nick has said. I knew he was right. Cody would want us to live life in the moments that we have. You just can't live life suffering. I know what I must do. Let's get this adventure on the road.
