"Dad. Stop I'm fine, just leave." Nico said exasperated. "Alright, Fine, have fun!" Hades replied cheerily before speeding off in his Camaro. "For the love of Hades." Nico grumbled. Nico walked into school still a little self conscience despite what Percy had said. He went to the guidance counselor's office and got his class schedule. He walked into his first period class, handed his "transfer" not to the teacher and slid into his desk hoping he wouldn't be noticed. The bell rang and the teacher stood in front of the class. "Good morning class!" She started, way too chipper for 7:15 in the morning. "Joining us for the start of this school year is a new student, Nico Diangelo. I am expecting you will all make him feel welcome. Nico?..." The teacher obviously wanted Nico to stand in front of the class. Despite Nico's objections, he was pulled to stand in front of 17 other juniors. "Hey. I'm Nico." And proceeded to sit back down.
The rest of the day went pretty uneventful. In gym, Nico was good at dodging and that sort, but catching and throwing? Um yeah no. English was torture because Nico didn't want to admit that he was dyslexic. But when he got to 7th period, things took a turn for...interesting.
Nico walked into History a little out of breath from trying to run from one end of the school to the other. After going through the whole new kid introductory spiel, Nico fell into his chair. Then the professor wrote something that caught Nico's attention. The teacher wrote Greek Mythology on the whiteboard. "Finally, something I'm good at." The teacher then asked if someone could names some gods. Nico raised his hand and the teacher, impressed that the new student had the courage, asked him to stand and recite all of the gods he knew. Nico hesitantly stood up and began with the Big Three, and named all of the gods, including the minor gods. Then, a brunette in the back row snorted and sneered, "what's he gonna do next speak Greek?" and rolled her eyes. Nico turned and said "βέβαιος , αν θέλεις να."
Nico, actually mildly interested, decided to try out for soccer. He ran to the store, bought some cleats and shin guards, and dashed back to make it in time for tryouts. Some of the popular jocks looked at Nico's scrawny figure and whispered amongst each other, obviously writing him off as no competition.
The coach started the players off with some stretches, warm ups, and then tested their endurance and how fast they could run. After all of that, the coach called for a scrimmage. He put Nico as striker hoping his small figure meant he was exceptionally fast. Nico got the ball, passed it to the left wing, got it passed back, rainbowed it over a defender's head, passed it towards his right wing, called for a center, and smacked the soccer ball into the top corner of the net. With sweat dripping off his nose, Nico peered through his hair hanging in his eyes. His coach and everyone on the field was staring at him. The seniors looked at him, then each other, then back at Nico, and went up and slapped him on the back and high fives him. "Welcome to the team." The coach said smiling.
