Chapter Two – Save Me
Currently sitting in a concrete bench, I tried to shut out the loud noise coming from the ballroom. It's no use, ugh. I tried to find peace here instead I'm grumbling to myself about the commotion going on a few yards away. No wonder it was so loud, all twelve balcony doors were open, and no doubt the other side of the building was too. The doors were tall, maybe thirty feet high, and had long white curtains moving with the breeze of the soft wind. I sighed. I bet the guards are already searching for me. That would mean I had little time left to enjoy my solitude.
I stood up and headed the opposite direction of the party. Walking down the stairs and towards the bridge. There was a waterfall not far from it, for sure the roaring waters could tune out the voices. The bridge was old, my parents haven't restored it, mainly because no one uses this trail anymore.
I tightly gripped the rope for support as I heard the wood boards creak under my heels. I managed to go across the bridge and I walked in the direction of the waterfall.
It was cold day for early November, and I should've brought a coat with me. I shivered and hugged myself for warmth, it was no use going back for one now. I hummed a melody as I walked farther away from the castle. I had no desire to go to the ball. I was dreading the moment when I'd finally meet my mate. It would be life changing and I suppose I'm not ready for that just yet.
I arrived to the clearing that was once a meadow, the arrival of the cold weather had killed the flowers that had once bloomed, and just beyond a river that led towards the rocky waterfall. I hadn't even taken five steps when behind me a dead twig snapped. My heart raced dreadfully as I turned towards the sound. Just a few feet away a shadowy figure stood watching me, its gaze burning into my eyes. I felt odd, it was a feeling I've never felt before. But the feeling was overruled with panic and my entire body was telling me to run away from the predator.
Trusting my instinct I grasped my dress and ran as far as my legs could take me. Fool! I thought to myself, how could I have been such a fool to be exposed in this manner? My father will have me locked up for weeks and will order bodyguards to guard me for the rest of my life. I'll never hear the end of it.
I wasn't even cautious of crossing the old bridge, in fact I didn't even think about it at all, which led me to the position I would be in exactly ten seconds later. Towards the middle of the bridge one of the planks split under my weight, and my entire leg was caught between the cracks. I muffled my whimpers with my hand, as I tried to bear the pain. "Agh." Okay I can do this. Without much luck, I struggled to push myself up.
"Bloody hell."
Startled at the voice, I dropped right back down and turned to find the cloaked stranger at the end of the bridge. The deep voice informed me the cloaked stranger was male, however he had his hood on and I just couldn't catch a glimpse of him. Nonetheless I could feel the burning gaze once again and it wasn't very welcoming.
Abruptly he growled and spun around heading back towards the forest – and away from me. "Wait! Please! If you're not going to kill me at least help me." I pleaded to the beast with awful manners.
He stopped but didn't even had the decency of looking back. "You got yourself into that mess, I'm sure you'll have no problem calling one of your maids to help you get out of it."
How dare him!? "You sir in just the five minutes I've come to have the terrible displeasure of knowing you, have shown me you are by no means a gentlemen at all! May you and your cowardness rot in hell!" The words slipped out of my mouth before I could acknowledge what I had just said. Oh no what've I done? My only hope to getting out of the dreadful bridge was seconds to abandoning me or worse finish me off for talking ill-mannered of him.
