Prologue

Bathump, Bathump, Bathump.

My heart raced as I felt Bryan's deep gaze piercing right through me. I turned to him in attempt to ask what seemed to be the bother.

Bathump, Bathump, Bathump.

The moment our eyes met, I couldn't bring myself to speak. I just stared right into those raven black rims that glimmered against the sunlight. They looked into mine as though they were examining my soul. He lifted his brows, adding slight emphasis to the fine lined wrinkles that were beginning to form above them. He wore a strong and serious expression, exemplifying an unusual hint of sympathy. I couldn't understand why he's giving me this look. It felt weird. Still, I can't slow down the heartbeat that continues to accelerate.

"Ayeeeeeee!" Gilbert, his friend, teased, cutting right through our contact.

Crap. I immediately averted my gaze. I turned to Gilbert and shook my head. He replied with a big smirk. He's been pairing me up with his friend, Bryan, whom I've know for quite awhile. We're taking up the same course here in the University. Bryan and I share a lot of things in common. In fact, we get along very well. Because of that, our friends tend to tease us. They think that he's into me. Of course, that's just in their heads. People nowadays put malice in pretty much everything.

I can't help but wonder though, "What was that look about? What was he trying to tell me? Does he ---"

Bathump, Bathump, Bathump.

No. He probably just wanted to borrow something - a pen perhaps. Maybe he left his at home. Anyway, I shouldn't dwell too much on this. Someone already owns my heart and I definitely won't fall for anyone else.

That's what I thought. Rather, it's what I want to believe.

Bathump, Bathump, Bathump.
