Reborn in Blood:  Chapter Seven

Oblivion.  She found herself back where she started, strapped down spinning into infinity and nothingness at the same time.  This time was different though—this time she had control.  The ordeals, the nightmares, the dreams, the fear that she had experience this time; she would not repeat those ordeals this time.  Her mother may have had plans for her but her plans were not the same.  She had her own ideas.

Forcing the world to stop, she opened her eyes; everything was the same.  The robed figures and Brian still stood around her bed like carrion birds waiting for death; she was not sorry to disappoint them.

“It is done!” her mother cried cheerfully.  “Welcome to the eternal night my daughter, together we shall rule it!”

The girl looked at her mother, her eyes were the color of the blood she had swallowed but moments before; “I am no one’s daughter.”  Before her mother could reply the flames at the tips of the candles leapt from their perches on the wicks becoming flaming bats.  The wizards stepped backwards as the flaming beasts perched on each of the corners of the bed burning through her bonds without burning her.

Sitting straight up, the girl turned and grabbed her mother by her cloak, “In order to be someone’s daughter I have to have parents.”  The mother barely had to open her mouth in fear as the whirling inferno of the bats descended on her; within seconds nothing was left of her but cinders.

Satisfied she turned to her remaining audience, looking each of them in the eye; “Is there anyone one of you which would like to claim me as their child?”  They exchanged nervous glances with each other before bowing their heads and exiting in silence leaving her alone.

Walking to the window she looked out at the cornfield, she could see where the husker had stopped.  She was alone, her family was dead—her only company was the ghosts who would plague her for the rest of eternity.  She no longer had old age and death to look forward to; the things that her future held were so much worse….
