The Silence of Revenge (Fairy Tail Fan Fiction) – Chapter 6
The mission was over now.
Natsu and Happy had been the lucky ones to find the creature that the job had been talking about. It turned out just to be a simple little fire salamander, and Natsu had immediately taken a shine to the tiny creature, insisting that he absolute had to keep it as a pet. There'd been a lot of arguing before the Fire Dragon Slayer had finally gotten his way. Celena swore that he was actually a tiny child trapped in a big person's body. She found it slightly endearing, but the pink-haired boy was definitely not the type of boy she would picture herself sauntering around Magnolia hand-in-hand with.
She had her sights on someone different. Someone whose cold exterior had peek her interests the moment that she had land eyes on him. Perhaps that was really the reason why she'd saved him, because she wanted nothing more than to figure him out—all of him.
Almost involuntarily, Celena's gaze flickered over to Gray who was sitting outside of the hotel room on the wooden deck, shirtless. A cigarette was hanging from his mouth as he inhaled its toxic fumes. Grabbing it back in between his middle and index fingers, he placed his elbow on his knee, watching the swirl of smoke the danced off of the red bud of the burning drug. Sighing, he exhaled the smoke that had filled his lungs, before repeating the same process as before.
Rising to her feet from where she'd once been sitting on the tatami matted floor, she walked over to the open shoji doors and stepped out into the refreshing night air. There was a warm breeze dancing through the trees making them sway and groan. She was slightly chilled by the wind, since she wore only a short green night robe whose sleeves fell over her shoulders, revealing her prompt collarbones and much of her cleavage, but she ignored the discomfort and sat down next to Gray.
"Hi." She smiled. "Wanna help a girl out and let me have one of your cigs?"
Gray glanced at her fleetingly, before pulling a small cartridge out of his pant pocket and flipping its lid open. He held it out to her, and she plucked one of herb filled sticks from it. Placing the brown end in between her lips, she summoned a small flame above her fingertip and lit the cigarette, breathing in the sharp tasting smoke. It burned lightly at the back of her throat, but she did not cough, it was a pleasant sensation—an addicting sensation.
"You didn't strike me as the type of person to smoke," Gray stated bluntly, a puff of gray swirling over his lips.
Smirking, she laughed lightly. "I'm just full of surprises, now aren't I? First, I save some attractive Ice Mage from death; then, I join his guild, forsake the assassins, save his friend from a Cavaencola, and now I'm smoking with him in my nightgown." She smiled playfully. "To be honest, I'm starting to surprise myself!"
Gray was grinning out at the darkness, not looking at her. "Seems you have a sense of humor, too. I assumed you were just some stuck-up, serious, cold stiff."
Involuntarily, her jaw clenched and she looked down at the cigarette she cradled in her fingers, before bringing it to her lips and inhaling deeply. The mixture of drugs and chemicals that filled her lungs made her head feel light and the rest of her numb. It helped her control her anger, which was why she'd started smoking. The temper that she tried hiding beneath her stony façade had gotten her in more trouble than any normal person should be, so she'd eventually developed many dangerous habits that she didn't care enough to try to rid herself of; however, sometimes, it still wasn't enough.
Her voice was slightly raspy as she spoke again. "I only let people see what I want them to see."
When she said that, Gray finally looked at her, his eyes scanning over her features—the thoughtful furrow of her brow, the set of her jaw, and the frown the weighed down the corners of her lips—before coming to rest on her eyes. They were dark right now like the deep green of spruce needles.
"What do you not want people to see?" He inquired.
She continued to stare at the red bud of her cigarette, not wanting to meet his eyes. "A broken girl that has a dark past filled with threatening secrets."
"You're not broken."
"I am," she lightly argued, "beyond repair, I'm afraid."
Gray shook his head. "No ones beyond saving, or beyond fixing." A light sigh escaped past his lips. "Just know this: I won't give up on you, and neither will anyone else. Your family now."
Glancing up, Celena's eyes locked with his powerful gaze. "I hope that you don't just see me as family, Gray." She blushed at her own words, and she could see a light flush of red decorating Gray's cheeks as well.
Rubbing the back of his neck nervously, the black-haired boy accidently dropped his cigarette, cursing as it fell on to the ground. It'd been ready to get rid of anyway, so he didn't bother picking it back up. "I-I... Of course not," he sighed in defeat as if he'd just been having an internal battle with himself.
Sliding closer to Gray, discarding her cigarette butt, Celena looked up at him from beneath her long eyelashes. "What do you see me as? I know that we've just met each other, but I...I can't help but be infatuated with you already, Gray Fullbuster." Her face was inches away from his. "I learned a lot about you and your friends while I was an assassin, but I was always interesting in you. You're mysterious, dark, brooding—just like me."
There was desire in Gray's dark blue eyes as he stared down at her, glancing over her face, her neck, her body—everything. Bringing his face closer to hers, he hesitated, pulling back a little, before lightly placing his lips over hers. Instinctively, Celena wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. He moaned softly, gently biting at her bottom lip. His hands explored up her sides, before tenderly cupping her reddening cheeks.
Pulling back, gasping for air, Gray placed his forehead against hers, before abruptly standing, placing his hands on his hips and staring off at something far away. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Why?" she inquired.
Shaking his head as if to clear it, he looked down at her. "I have trouble controlling myself when I'm around you, and I don't wanna make you do anything that you don't want to, or that I'd regret."
Laughing lightly, Celena stood up and slowly moved towards him, stopping only when there was hardly any space separating them. "I was the one who made a move on you, Gray." She lightly trailed her fingertips up his exposed abdomen. "And you don't see me stopping." Smirking, she moved her hands down his chest and began teasingly playing with the top of his pants. "Perhaps I'll join you in your room tonight."
Gray bit his lower lip thoughtfully. "As much as I would love that—"
"It's too soon," she finished for him, taking a step back, removing her hands from the waistband of his jeans.
"But," he continued, "If you want to just...stay...with me, then you're more than welcome."
Smiling, she looked up at him bashfully. "I'd love that."

I hope this makes up for my slow updating. Exams are a pain, guys. Anyway! Romance! I love writing romance! I'm not sure about eventually putting some smut in this book, but there will definitely be lots of snogging.
