The Silence of Revenge (Fairy Tail Fan Fiction) – Chapter 8

It was light out when she woke.

Ren was gone—just like she'd expected. Celena knew, however, that if it were possible, then he would have stayed the whole of the night with her. Logically, she accepted that he couldn't, but the fool in her wished that she could just leave with him away to a different land where their names had yet to be known. A land where they weren't assassins under constant pursue of the Magic Council. A land where they could once again be free from their vices—free from their pasts. That was her dream, but she knew that Ren would never leave Fiore, because he still had living family that he refused to abandon, and she—herself—had her reasons to stay.

Standing swiftly, not even glancing towards her articles of clothing that had been discarded during the night, Celena Re-Quipped into a turquoise sundress and left her feet bare. She exited the barn quickly after changing, but stopped just over the threshold of the large barn doors. Turning back towards the bleak interior of the red structure, the blonde-haired mage summoned a ball of purple flames above her hand, before tossing it at a pile of straw that lay nestled in a far corner.

It lit instantly.

Standing there for a brief moment, she watched as the lavender blazes quickly devoured the golden masses of straw and climbed up the drab wooden walls. They consumed everything in their path, and soon the barn had blackened and begun to fall apart. However, Celena didn't stay long enough to watch it crumble into a pile of embers, she'd already began walking back towards the hotel where she knew the others would be wondering where she was.

She thought long about how she would silence their suspicions. Perhaps, she could simply kill them and fake an accident to cover up that she'd been the real reason for their deaths. Or maybe they weren't even awake yet and she could just sneak back into the hotel room without being noticed. It was quite early, the sun had just risen and there was still a shadow of night clinging to everything: the trees, the street, and the buildings. Birds were just beginning to sing amongst the foliage, and only a few people had emerged from their homes. Shops wouldn't be open for about another hour—they sat empty and neglected.

It didn't take her long to arrive at the hotel—she'd memorized the route when she'd left the night before—and now she was standing outside the shoji doors that would lead her to the main area of their room. She hesitated for a moment, listening inside for any noise that would hint at life, before silently sliding open the doors and slithering soundlessly into the room.

At first it looked to be empty and she had a quick moment of relief, believing that the others were still asleep; however, she soon felt that she was not alone.

"Where were you?" inquired a voice behind her.

Whirling around, she came face-to-face with Titania. "Oh, Erza, I was just..." Celena paused, not knowing what to say.

"You were just what?"

She sighed. "There's something about this place. It brings back some memories. It's familiar, but I just don't know why. So I thought a walk would help me remember something."

"This early in the morning?"

"I didn't sleep very well last night, because this feeling of familiarity was bothering me."

"Fair enough," Erza said coolly. "Get ready to leave. We aren't eating breakfast this morning, because we have to get going, so that we make it back to the guild by sundown."

With that, the scarlet haired warrior left.

Celena couldn't help think how easy it was to fool every single one of these wizards. It was so simple. She felt like she was playing with toys. All she had to do was say something and she could make them feel or think anything that she wanted them to. Perhaps they were pretending, she thought suddenly. Perhaps they'd already figured it out, or they'd known from the very beginning that this all was just a ploy of hers. How could they though? She hadn't given them any reason to doubt her until this morning.

Shaking her head, she decided that it was impossible for them to have figured out she was still under the command of her assassin's guild. She'd never failed a mission, and she wasn't going to fail this one. She would have the hidden power on the Fairy Tail guild, and when she did, she'd kill every single one of the guild's members, just like she'd be ordered.
