I got this idea when I tripped on snow and got a nosebleed

I run faster than I have before. Away from the family who never loved me, the demon boyfriend, the sad neighbors, the evil guards, everything.

I tripped over a tree root and almost didn't catch myself. My hand slipped on the icy ground and my face hit the root hard.

I cried out as I felt my nose crack. I hold it and feel an steady trickle of blood falling from it.

I grimace and keep running.

The snow cracks under my shoes, the top having fused together in a thin layer of ice. Flecks of blood rain down on it, leaving a trail behind.

Something howls behind me, and I curse in my head.

My blood was attracting wolves.

I ran faster, weaving in and out of the snowy trees. The shadows seem to be laughing at me, and the wind makes the branches claw at my clothes. One slid past my cheek, leaving another cut which bled a little.

A root caught my foot again, but this time it actually caught my foot. It was a living tree, one with an actual mind of its own. It could think, it could talk, and it could eat other living beings.

I cry out as its root pulls me up to its single eye in the middle of its wide trunk.

It stares at me and I stare back with scared desperation. Its eye widens, and it seems to scream with fear and pleasure. The one. It says. The one who will save us.
