Chapter 10
(This chapter is dedicated to HungerGamesGeek. because I couldn't stop smiling at her comment <3)
The music flowed from the house making the earth beneath my feet shake slightly. My heart pounded to the heavy beat and already excitement and anticipation was beginning to take notice in my stomach. Jocks were stood on the front lawn in their leather-man jackets, checking out all the tightly clad girls entering the house. The ever present red cup was in the majority of hands.
“And this, my friend, is when summer kicks off.” Josie said, walking backwards to the house with her arms spread wide.
“Are we actually invited to this one?” I winked, linking my arm with hers.
“Shut up.” She laughed, shoving my shoulder. The combination of mine and Josie’s heels clicking against the pavement drowned out as we approached, I think she said it was Noel Shepherds' house? Someone from the local high school. My dress was black and short with a cinched waist, ‘simple but stylish’ is what Josie said. Considering it’s hers that she let me borrow. Josie was wearing a light blue dress which clung to her chest and thighs, looking stunning as always.
As we walked through the front yard, heads swiveled our way, the girls sending looks of thunder in our direction. Me and Josie giggled through the front doors of the house when we heard a wolf whistle from the porch beside us, but we just ignored it and focused on getting ourselves a drink.
“Josie, hey!” A tall girl with short blonde hair who was standing on the stairs waved her arm frantically and made her way towards us, throwing her arms around Josie’s neck. “I haven’t seen you in ages, where have you been?” She inquired, batting Josie’s shoulder in an exaggerated way. I think she’s a little bit tipsy.
Josie bumped my shoulder and smiled at the bubbly girl in front of us. “I’ve been hanging out with this chick.”
The girl looked at me and gave me a warm, friendly smile causing me to warm to her immediately. “Hi i’m Kara, it’s nice to meet you.” She gestured her hand forward so I shook it gently and returned her smile willingly.
“I’m Nina.” I told her and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
“Are you new here?” She asked curiously raising a perfectly plucked eyebrow.
I shrugged slightly and gave an impish grin. “Yeah, I’ve just moved here with my dad.” I told her, not feeling the need to give any reasons why. It was my dad who suggested we move here, saying it was ‘easier’ for him. I never bothered to question him though, whatever it was, it was none of my business.
Kara beamed at me “Awesome! Why don’t y’all come and meet the guys” She suggested, gesturing over her shoulder at a group of teenagers around our age across the room.
I wasn’t really in the mood to hang out with people, well to be honest I wasn’t in the mood for a party full-stop. Being away from Jex made my chest hurt and I just wanted to be with him. This space was really not helping.
Unfortunately, Josie answered for me “We’d love to,” She stated, shooting me a pleading look. I sighed in defeat and followed after them, seriously regretting coming to this party.
“Jelly baby!”
“Oo-Ooh-Ooh! Jelly baby’s here!”
“OW!”
A chorus of guys shouted as we weaved our way through sweaty bodies and came into the kitchen. Jelly baby? That must be Josie’s nickname, considering she was obsessed with jelly babies.
