When Heather came back inside, we walked out of the room together, chattering excitedly about our new school year and what we were expecting.
"Oh gosh, I can't wait to start classes! I really want to experiment with these powers," I said, stretching out my fingers and wiggling them.
"Me too," Heather replied, grinning at me.
We heard a set of footsteps running up to us, and turned around."Hey Blade," I greeted him, "how's life going for you?". He grinned boyishly.
"Yeah, it's going alright. I'm just going to grab my schedule, you two wanna join me?" he asked.
Nodding my head, I grabbed Heather's hand and the three of us jogged to the elevator down to the office, eager to find out our classes.
"Names please," the receptionist chirped. "Josannah Daniels, Heather Green, and Blade Evans," I replied. After rustling through a stack of papers, she handed us our schedules.
Back at the room, Heather and I compared our timetables. We had combat and defence classes together.
I looked up at her and smiled. "At least we have classes together, right?" Someone knocked at the door.
"Come in," I hollered.
Blade walked inside, waving his schedule.
"What do we have together?" he questioned, taking a look at our schedules for the first time.
He sucked his teeth in disappointment.
"Wow. That isn't much, I mean, only combat and defence?"
"I know," I sighed.

A few days later, school had begun.
Everything was in chaos. Papers flew everywhere down the narrow hallway, students pushing and elbowing others out of the way; I even saw a ball of fire burst spontaneously in the air before disappearing.
I struggled through the crowd to get to my first class: water.
When I had finally reached the blue room, I let out the breath I'd been holding, and looked around the classroom.
The walls had been painted a soft teal, with a soft breeze flowing through the open windows.
The cream coloured blinds were drawn and the scene outside the window made me smile. A shining sun with fluffy white clouds dotted in the pure blue sky.
The room looked as cosy as my bedroom, unlike a normal classroom, and made me want to learn the art of manipulating water.

As our names were called out in class, we were required to demonstrate a little something. I'd seen water fireworks, rain, and water bubbles so far. I wanted mine to be memorable. I didn't want to be that girl who sits in the corner and does nothing.
"Josannah," Mrs Winter called out.
"You can call me Josie," I answered with a smile.
"Very well," she smiled, "show us what you can do, Josie."
I complied, closed my eyes, and drew my hand out in front of me. I called upon water from an unknown source and weaved my hand in a complicated pattern, attempting to replicate a snowflake.
Clenching my fist, the liquid snowflake hardened into ice, earning 'oohs' and 'ahs' from across the room, but that wasn't where I stopped.
I stood up, raising my hands in front of me, connecting with the water I had drawn yet again from the unknown source. Bringing my hands together, I compacted the water to a manageable size and froze that too. Then I unclenched my fists and my brought them down again, creating a mini snow storm around me.
The class applauded me, and even the teacher looked shocked. I smiled, shied away and sat down, hiding my flushed cheeks. The cold of the snow did nothing to cool them down.
Mrs Winter cleared her throat, quietening down the class. She smiled at me again. "Well Josie, you seem to have mastered the art of creating snow."
Again, my cheeks flushed, and I murmured a quiet "thank you". I drew my hands together in front of me and then pulled them apart again, dispersing the snow.

After that little episode, class flew by rather fast. I'd learnt about the best way to use water to my advantage in a fight: when fire is around.
When the teacher dismissed us, a boy with deep blue eyes and a head of curly brown hair approached me.
"Hey," he said, giving a little smile, "I'm Dylan."
"Hey back at ya," I replied, "I'm Jo-"
He cut me off before I could finish.
"Josie, yeah I know. What you did in class earlier was really cool. Wou-"
"Cool. How punny," I laughed.
"Sorry, I need to get to my next class, so I'll see you later?"
He looked at me strangely, raising an eyebrow. "You do realise we are both water elementals, right?"
"Yeah sure." I gave myself a mental facepalm for the stupid reply.
He looked at me expectantly. "Why are you staring at me weirdly?" I asked.
"Well that means we have the same class next...right?" I once again facepalmed myself, this time, physically.
Laughing stupidly, I replied. "Well that's nice, because I don't know where our next class is."
