America

A week later...

Prince Maxon was holding a Selection. The flashback of last night came up again because that's all that was on my mind as he made the announcement.

That night...

Prince Maxon strode in powerful strides he was  calm like the prince he always is. He took the microphone I was holding and for a second our fingers brushed and I could feel a faint blush creep up my cheeks. He watched me for a second after which he gained composure and began to speak.

Present.
I was brushing my hair when my mom burst in the room.
"Ames, the palace loved your performance so much that they sent us an invitation to join the selection!" She panted. Holding an opened envelope in her hand.
I stared at my mother in disbelief because one, I knew that anyone was eligible to join.
Second, your application gets selected and you go through an interview to see if your fit to be part of the 35.
"Mom, please." I said restraining myself to do an eyeroll.
My mother placed the application on my open bag and her hands on her hips looking livid. "America Singer, stop being foolish and go to that interview." I said nothing. "Think of your brother and sister."
She raised her chin because she knew she got me there.
My mother knew I did not adore Maxon because I was secretly harboring feelings for Aspen. She knew if I were to be in a relationship of some sort it would be for love. Just like how my parents have.
She however would grab the chance to have her daughter to be a princess.
"Mom, I'll think about it, the interview is still in a week.  Now if you excuse me, I have a gig tonight actually. Gotta earn to help with the bills. " I added the last one out of habit because my mom always says it.
I grabbed my house keys and bag.  Waved goodbye to May and Gerard who were on the living room watching tv.
The bus arrived and I secured a seat on the window.
A selection. My mother got me into a selection without my consent. But despite that there were probably thousands of applications. How did mine get through?
I remembered my mom dumping the envelope on my bag I read my application.
My mom knew my so well. She filled out my likes, dislikes, and ambitions like it was me who wrote them myself.

Now what? Should I join the selection?
