Screams, penetrating screams. It's red to my ears, but a familiar sound. I could never get used to it. No-one could... Shaking bodies stand for them-selves, whimpers escaping their cracked lips, shredded skin, scarlet blood leaking out of cuts and scabs. It pains me to look at them, but I need to do this...
~~~
I turn to my brother, pain clear behind his eyes. He looks down, and a poker is burning letters into his skin. I squeeze his hand, "It's going to be fine..." I whisper to him. It's hard for me to even watch my brother, Aaron, be in pain. I love him to pieces, and I feel the tears threaten to fall. My nose tingles, I sniff to attempt the stinging to go away.
I blink hard, swallow the lemon in my throat, and prepare for what is coming for me. I let out a shaky breath as I sit down. The poker is being put back into the burning fire, heating up just for me. I breathe steadily, as the peacekeeper takes the poker out of the flames and towards my skin. I shut my eyes tightly, and scream in my mind, as the initials S.M are being burnt into my flesh...
I rub my waist, still adjusting to what is now burnt into my skin, the initials of Samuel Marshal, the Mayor of my town, Souyer.
Souyer is a part of the country now called Solaner. Solaner used to be South Africa, home to 50 million people. Solaner is divided into 7 sections. Each section is called a Sector. Souyer is Sector 3.
Sector 1 - Tanner
Sector 2 - Preet
Sector 3 - Souyer
Sector 4 - Wallow
Sector 5 - Shoff
Sector 6 - Lexity
Sector 7 - Millern
All of these Sectors make up Solaner, where I live. Each Sector has their own role to play, but it has its toll on us...
Some-things we can never change, but we can make the most of it. But sometimes, that just seems impossible.
