Prologue-Silver's the name, Long John Silver they calls me
Excitement flood through my veins as we existed the car and made our way through the muggle station.
"Dakota," Chloe, the owner and runner of the orphanage I had lived at, yelled as she tried to wrangle the 17 younger children towards platform 9 and 3/4. My older 'sister', Natalie helped her as she balanced an infant on her hip and tried to push her own cart. "Control your hair! And come help us!" I guess I was so excited that my hair began to rapidly change colors.
"Oh sorry," I said as I closed my eyes and concentrated really hard so it would stay one color, my natural hair color, dark red. Many muggles stopped and stared or gave me weird looks as they rushed on. I hurried to catch up with my group.
"Kota! Kota!" I looked down at the tiny six-year-old boy who was tugging on my sleeve.
"Yes Benny?"
"Piggy?" I grinned at the boy as I squat down so he could scramble up onto my back. I allowed two twin brunette girls to sit on my cart as we made our way towards the platform. Once we were all through, Chloe became engaged in a conversation with a tired looking woman. I played around with some of the younger kids, chasing them around in a makeshift game of tag, before Chloe called me over.
"Dakota this is Mrs. Lupin. Her son is in the same year as you." Mrs. Lupin pushed forward a tall skinny boy. His sandy hair was sticking up slightly.
"Hi, I'm Dakota," I said grinning and sticking out my hand.
"Remus," he said shaking it, "um do you know there's a person on your back?"
"Huh?" I looked sideways and saw a small hand. "Oh Benny, yeah," I said chuckling and helping him off my back. I was so used to having one of the little kids always on my back that I had completely forgotten. Once I had gotten him off, I turned back to Remus.
"Nice to meet you. Do you want to sit together?"
"Sure." He grinned at me.

"Hey where are you going?" I asked Remus as he broke away from the group. We had both been sorted into Gryffindor and I didn't know anybody else so I just stuck by him.
"I have to go see the headmaster."
"I'll come with you." He shifted uneasily.
"Um no that's okay, you don't have to," he said and then hurriedly added, "it's just I have to talk to Dumbledore in private."
"I can just wait for you outside," I said with a small grin, "but if you really don't want me to come."
As it turned out, I walked down with him chirping on about nothing the whole time. When we got to the large statue that guarded the headmasters office he gave the password and entered while I leaned against the wall opposite and waited. As I waited, I began to hum a muggle song I loved. My eyes fluttered closed as I softly sang to myself.
"What are you singing?" I was startled out of wonderland by a boy with black hair and grey eyes casually leaning against the wall next to me. He had one leg propped up as he stared over at me.
"A song," I muttered.
He rolled his eyes. "No really?"
"It's a muggle song," I said through gritted teeth. He seemed to take a sudden interest as he tilted his head and studied me.
"Are you a muggle?"
"Does it matter?"
"No, I'm just curious."
