Double the love

Chapter seven

Following the days of Liam telling Zayn he could have children, Zayn visits him everyday during Liam's lunch break. Liam was still cautious around Zayn and he thinks Zayn has noticed. During one of their quiet lunches, Zayn finally voices his thoughts.

Liam was just about to drink from his cup when Zayn clears his throat, "Liam I know that you think I might go running out the door," Liam's eyes widened, "but you can rest assure that I won't." Zayn hesitantly smiles and grabs Liam's hand.

Liam lets out a sigh, he feels a little sense of relief go through his body, "I know but like I'm just not used to someone actually staying, you know? My parents and Harry have been the only ones who have stayed and it's just a little weird. But I promise I'll try not to think too much about it."

Zayn's smiles more confidently, "Good."

They finish their meals and make small talk afterwords, Liam having a couple more minutes until his break finishes. And he thinks back to the conversation he had with Harry the day prior.

"Harry, just because we are talking now doesn't mean I can just slack off at work, he's still my boss!"

"I bet he is."

"For fucks sake Harry."

"What time are you picking up the boys today?" Zayn asks.

"Around three, Why?"

"I was thinking we could go to the park today? It's Friday and I bet the kids are buzzing, we can get ice cream and everything," Zayn suggests.

"That sounds like a good plan, the boys love the park. Would you like to stay for dinner then? It's mac and cheeses night," Liam suggests.

Zayn smiles. Damn him and his smile. "I would love to."

"Great."

After Liam's lunch break finishes Zayn gives him a kiss and goes back to his meetings. Liam can't help but feel content. It feels like everything is finally falling into place. He looks forward to their park outing and how the boys will be happy to see Zayn.

At around noon Liam gets a call from the school, "Mr. Payne?"

"This is him, is everything okay?" feeling of wordiness settles into his stomach, a call from the school is never a good sign.

"I have one of your sons, Brandon, here in the nurses station, it seems he's come down with a fever."

"I'm on my way, thank you." he hangs up, and clicks on Harry's contact. 

He answers on the third ring, "Hey Liam!"

"Harry can you pick up Brandon from school he's gone down with a fever?"

"Mate any other time I would, but I'm not actually in town right now, ask Zayn and see if you can get out early?"

Liam sighs, "You know I don't like asking for favors, thanks I'll call you later then." Once he ends the call he picks up his office phone and calls Zayn's secretary.

"Mr.Malik's Office."

"Hey Jane, is Mr. Malik busy?"

"He's in a meeting right now but hold on a moment."

Liam checks his watch, if Zayn's too busy he'll just have to leave the office. Something he's never had to do before. And now of all times when he has a deadline to finish. Zayn would understand, he's sure.

"He seems really Liam, I'm sorry, do you want to leave a message?"

"No it's okay, thank you Jane have a lovely day."
