Chapter Four

"Thank you for inviting me over for dinner, Marlene," Scarlette, my mum (Marlene), Katie and myself are all sitting down eating some lasagna. My mum knows that's my favourite meal.

"No problem, dear. You're welcome over any time."

At that Katie spoke up, "So how come Chelsea can't come over? Why isn't she welcomed?" Katie has this friend, Chelsea. To be honest, she is an awful person. Rude, stubborn and selfish. Mum saw her at parent/teacher interviews once. She has never let Chelsea step into this house.

"Because, Katie, I don't think she is someone you should be hanging around with. I have no control over who you spend time with at school, but she will not come into my house anytime soon," Katie rolled her eyes at that, "Moving on, how was you day today, Scarlette?"

"It was an excellent day. Vivian and I got some news today- but I'm sure Viv already told you," Uh oh. Here's trouble. I still haven't told her about the camp. She likes to know things as soon as I know them.

"Uh, well. I was about to tell you, because I was so sure I wanted to go earlier on, that soon there will be a camp with some kids from school. Scarlette and I would like to go."

"So when is it?" Here comes interrogation time.

"In two weeks exactly."

"Who is going?"

"A few kids from school."

"Where is it?"

"About 10 minutes away from the Ranch."

"And is your mum okay with this, Scarlette?"

"Yes miss."

"You may go," Yes! We passed the test, "If you follow my rules. Vivian, you know them."

"Thank you, Mum."

"I'm full," Katie storms off, mumbling under her breath.

"Mum, can you turn the T.V up," I had just seen a news channel showing a picture of a satellite. Now, there is something you must know about me. I am OBSESSED with anything and everything in space. When I was younger I wanted to be an astronaut, but then I saw what it does for your health. So I dicided I want to be an astrophysicist, and I still want to be one.

Mum grabs the remot and turns up the volume. A news lady is speaking, "-Dr Newheart states that "the strange satellite malfunction could be caused by an saboteur, or group, trying to shut down our investigation of the transmission we-". Sadly, Dr Newheart was taken away by his angry looking boss. Could our government and NASA be hiding something? All we need know is for Special Agent Mulder and Special Agent Scully to come and investigate. Now onto sport..."

"What was that all about?" That was interesting. Alien life. Life on another planet, asteroid even. It makes you think, in this MASSIVE universe, you would think there would be at least one species of life, whether it be a animal, plant, fungi, bacteria or protist, would be somewhere other than earth. Maybe soon, we will meet.

"I don't know but I bet it's just this rumour to stir people up. You know how we are, we will believe anything we hear in a blink of an eye."

"Yes, thank you, Scarlette, for your opinion. I see you have finished you dinner. Are you going home now or a bit later?" Wow, Mum seems very uptight. Maybe she doesn't like the idea of the camp.

"I think I'll stay for a bit longer, if that's alright. Thank you for dinner, Marlene," Mum nods her head, stands up and takes her plate to the kitchen.

Up in my room, Scarlette and I are resting on my bed. Neither of us are talking. We don't need to. Each other's presence is reassuring. The thing is, the bond between Scarlette and I is strong and tight. We can read each other like a book. We know what the other is feel without talking.

Scarlette is like my other half.

For example; right now, Scarlette is feeling worried and suspicious. So I am as well.
