Chapter One

Makoto POV:

I dock my ship and step foot onto the land of Phoenix Drop. I close my eyes, taking a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for what i have to do. I slowly let my eyes open. When i do there are three guards standing in front of me.

I recognise them immediately. I've been watching them for weeks, months even. Oh and also.. They're all on the list of to be jury of nine members. Dante, Garroth and Laurance.

"Hello ma'am, My name is-", Garroth began to say before I chuckled and cut him off.

"You're Garroth, head guard of Pheonix Drop. Sorry for cutting you off but i don't think you realise how popular you guards are. Let alone how controversial this village has been made to seem." I couldn't tell him the truth. Irene no.

"What makes the town so controversial?" Garroth asked with sass behind his question.

"Oh hmmm, let's see. You're all really great guards.. And trust me Garroth, your brother isn't really unknown anywhere." I reply with an equal amount of sass.

"Well then i assume you'll know the names of these two guards as well then?" He asks, back to his polite self. Thoroughly amusing.

"Duh. Hey Laurance, you're quite the inspiration. Pleasure to meet you, Dante. Oh and by the way, my name is Makoto" I say to all of them with a smirk.

"Wait," Dante cuts in - oh here we go -" Makoto as in... The Shadow Knight who escaped by her own will and is now seen and known as a peace holder?"

"I wouldn't say by my own will... My magicks and kind-heart," I wink as I say this," helped a bit too. Seems you know your Shadow Knights, Dante." I smirk as he shoots me a nervous glance.

"YOU'RE HER. YOU WERE THERE WHEN I WAS. I NEVER THOUGHT YOU WOULD WANT TO ESCAPE-" I cut him off with my finger, my facial expression serious.

"While Im flattered you remember me, I'd rather not remember the darker days. I'm sure you would rather forget too and, what can I say, your Wyvern, Ungrth, inspired me. May his soul be blessed by Lady Irene." I sighed before flipping my hair back slightly, getting my sass back.

"I'm sorry for mentioning it and thank you for.. For.. respecting-" he started to become breathless. I grabbed his hand without warning.

"You don't have to talk about it." I whisper.

"Thank you..." He mutters before realising the others were staring at us, "Well, what business do you have in Pheonix Drop, Makoto?" Laurance asks me.

"I've been traveling from different towns to try and find one i can call home. I had bad experiences in the past, and I never felt at home anywhere. I haven't really had friends since before.. Anyway, I knew you lived here, you all lived here. I thought here I might feel like I'm part of a family again. You're known for being a close village." I smile, holding back buried pain.

"You are welcomed in Pheonix Drop, M'lady, as long as you stay out of trouble" Garroth warns me.

I smirk, time for some fun.

"Oh please Garroth, the only trouble i would ever wish to cause you is trouble with guy problems" i wink at him, causing a laugh to escape Laurance and Dante's lips.

He blushed, "I-I t-think you sho-should maybe g-go and e-explore the town now, there's an empty house you can use to sleep in for the night. J-just come to the guard tower when you're ready and I-I'll escort y-you."

"Oh yay, alone time with my favourite guard" i reply, gaining a "what about me" look from Laurance, whom I wink at and then feel the eyes burn into my back whilst walking off into the town.

I turn my head to see Garroth blushing furiously at the ground, making me grin and the other two guards looking between him and I.

"Damn, this girl just... Never mind. I think i like this new her" Laurance spoke to Dante quietly, but not quietly enough for me to not hear.

"Love you too Laurance." I tease and start jogging up the steps, ready to start my new life in Phoenix Drop and finish what I've started.
