chapter 1

I woke up this morning to Carter climbing in my bed. I rolled over and looked at him. I have been working in firehouse 51 for 7 years. He lays next to me and cuddles into my chest. I close my eyes and wrap my arm around him. I rub his back. I look at the clock and its 4:30 in the morning. He has been having nightmares for a couple of days. He starts to fall asleep. I rubb his back and start to call asleep when he starts to shake. I sit up. I look over at him.

" Carter baby wake up its just a dream " I said. He opned his eyes and looked at me. I smiled down at him and laid back down. I pull him into me. The only time his dad Hunter will take him is when I am at work. He puts his head on my heart and cries. I rubb his back and kiss his head.

" baby what was your nightmare about " I say in a whisper. He cries harder. I get up and get in my truck shirt and dark blue washed jeans with boots. I put on a sweater. I put my hair in a pony tail. I go over to him and pick him up. I walk out of my room and down the hall. He is already dressed. When he wakes up he gets himself dressed. He doesn't let me do it know. I walk downstairs and to the kitchen. I put him in his chair and make him cereal. I give it to him and watch him. I noticed he flinched and whimpers when he moved his chest. I make myself a coffe e and put it in a coffee mug. I put the cap on it. I get myself a bowl.

" I can't tell you " he whispers and looks at me. I frown and look at him. I raise a eyebrow.

" why can't you tell me baby its okay " I said. Hs shakes his head and starts to cry. I put our bowls in the sink. I pick him up out of his chair and get his bag ready for his dad's. He picks Carter up at the fire house. I get his jacket on and shoes. He looks at me still crying.

" he wilv hurt you mama " he cries. I nod and pick him up and our bags. I grabbed my phone and car keys and walk out the door and lock it. I got over to my car and unlock it. I put the bags on the ground and my phone and keys ontop of the car. I take him off of me and put him in he's carseat and puckle him up. When I touch his rips he whimpers and closes his eyes. I close the door and out the stuff in the car. I grab my mug car keys and get in. I put my coffee and phone down and buckle up. I start the car and pull out. I drive down the street when Carter falls asleep. I pull into the firehouse and Severide comes out. I shut the car off and grab my coffee mug, keys ,and phone. I get out and put the stuff on the roff. I rib my eyes and open carters door. Severide takes my bags without asking. I take Carter out. I touch his rips and he crys out in his sleep. I look at Severide. He noticed it to. I pick him up an grabb my stuff. We walk in and everyone smiles. I smile at the and walk go the bunks. I put my stuff on my bed and keep my phone in my back pocket. Severide puts his stuff on my bed. I walk out to the kitchen and sit Carter in the table. His head leans forward. I take his jacket off. Casey, Herman, Jimmy and Severide are standing behind me. I take it off and put it on the table. I lift his shirt up to his rips. I gasped and cover my mouth. His right rip his brusied. He has a brusie on his stomach. I put his shirt down and look at them with tears in my eyes. Severide puts his hand on my back.

" I'll go put him in the bunkers call Halstead " he says. I nodded and gave Carter to him. The guys sit down. I pull my phone out and quickly fine Halstead number. Jimmy puts a hand on my back. I press his name and it starts to ring. I put the phone to my ear and whipped away teaes. Gabby walks in with Sylvie. He answers.

" Halstead when Carter goes to your house have you noticed anything when you touch his Rios he ceus or whimpers. " I say in a shakey voice adn whip a tear away. Herman rubbs my back.

" I think hunyer is hurting him. Ever since his been going there he has nightmares and wont tell me about them. He keeps saying he's gonna hurt you " I say and cry. I whip my tears away. Severide comes out. He friend at me.

" okay. Send Carter with him. After a hour of him being there we will go in and see what's up. I swear he hurts him I will kill his ass " halsteads says. I nod even though he can't see me.

" okay bye " I say and hang up. I look at everyone. They sigh. I know they want a explanation. I sigh.

" this morning I woke up to Carter climbing in my bed. He was crying and I put him back to sleep. It was like 4:30. Be started to shake from a nightmare and I woke him up. He cling to me crying. He was already dressed. He hasn't leg me help him. I walked down stairs s and fedd him and myslef. I asked him what is was about and he said he couldn't he started to cry hard so I i stoped saying and put him on my chest. After a few minutes be asid that he is gonna hurt you. When i got here Severide helped me get my stuff. i grabbed carter and touched his rips. He cried out in his sleep. Nothing has happened like this tell he started to see his dad. " I said. They all nodded. Sevride kissed my head. Jimmy sqeeuzed my leg. Severide looked at him wierdly. I shook it off.

" its okay kid we will figure it out " he said. I heard a scream come from the bunkers. I knew it was Carter. We all shot up. I ran in and he was screaming no and shaking and fighting. I ran over to the bed and climbed on. I grabbed his hands. He started to kick me. I gasped as he kicked me inghe stomach. Severide held his body diwn. Casey and daeson started to hold his shoulders.

" Carter stop your hurting mama " I yelled over his screams. He slowly stopped kicking my stomach. He opened his eyes and looked at us crying. I sighed and held my stomach. They let go of him. I heard a gun cock behind us. We all turned around. If was Hunter. he was pointing the gun at Carter. He started to cry an clung onto us. We all backed up as much as possible. The gun was pointed at me.

" move away from him Peyton know " he growled. I shook my head and held my stomach and Carter to my back. Carter was crying. Severide put a hand on his back. " know Peyton or I will shot you " he growled. Boden came out and out a finger over his lips. I shaked my head. Halstead came in. A gun shot went off. All I felt was pain and Carter scream mama. I knew he shot me. Severide laid me on the bed. He put persure to the wound. Halstead took a crying carter. They guys as in Jimmy, Casey, Herman , Otiz, Joe, Capp, Mouch and Cruz all licked me up. I gasped and held onto sevedides shirt. I was bleeding a lot. They got me to the ambo and put me in. Gabby jumped in the back with Severide.

" we will meet you there take care of her " Boden said before my eyes closed.
