Cassandra's POV:
That wasn't fair. It wasn't fair, god damn it! I looked over to Oli only to find him in complete shock. He looked like he'd seen a ghost. The doctor just went on and on about how sorry he was and that they tried their best. I didn't fully pay attention to what he said. He was asking Oli questions about his mother's heart conditions. He just nodded. Apparently she did have cardiac disease.
"So, I guess, that was it then", Mr. McGovan finally said. He wanted to add something but Oliver just turned around and went down the hallway.
"I'm sorry. I guess you understand he's pretty down...", I murmured and the man nodded. "Thank you for everything, Dr. McGovan", I added and said my goodbyes.
As I left the hospital, Oli was just going through the front door. I catched up with him. "Can I come over?", I just asked and broke the silence.
He shrugged and nodded, not saying a single word, not showing any expression. He seemed so empty and numb, like he wasn't even alive. I let out a small sigh and stopped, holding his hand. He stopped too and looked at me.
"I'm sorry, Oli. I really am", I muttered.
He fully turned around and pulled me into a hug. "It's not your fault you know?", he sighed as he gently stroked my hair. "Let's just go home, okay?", he added and I nodded.
On the way to his house we didn't let go off each other's hands. He squeezed mine tightly so I wouldn't even have the chance to break free. But I didn't want to anyways. His hand was a bit shaky but warm.. and soft. I mentally self slapped me for thinking about something like this right now.
His mother just passed away!
I only spoke to her once but according to the story about my past which Oli told me, I must've known her pretty well. That's how she knew my name the other day, I guess. All in all she seemed like such a nice woman.
As we arrived Oliver unlocked the door and entered the house. I closed the door behind me again and he was just standing in the hallway, running his fingers over a white and blue dotted jacket. It must've been hers. I let out a small sigh and walk up to him.
"You've got to be starving right? Have you already eaten something today? Come on, I'll cook something", I smiled weakly at him and gently tugged at his hand. I led him to the kitchen and opened the fridge. "What should I cook? Any wishes?", I asked him, trying to distract him from his thoughts for a little while.
"I'm not hungry", he sighed and broke free from my grip.
"Okay, fine", I shrugged and closed the fridge again. "Anything else you want to do?", I asked.
"I just want to be alone", he replied. Of course he would. But I had a bad feeling about it.
"Look, Oli. I understand you need some space and time but... I just don't want you to be alone right now", I sighed.
"Well what do you expect? I don't feel like talking or doing anything!", he mumbled.
I expected him to get angry, to get even more upset, maybe even cry or yell at me. Break things, no matter what. But he was just acting normal. Quiet and isolated. Like always.
