The sun gleamed off the armour of the guardians as the sun dropped below the horizon of rooftops surrounding the courtyard of the great white palace. As the sun fell the courtyard got dark, dimly lit by torches a few guardians held in their quivering hands. The night was very cold as it neared Atum, the falling of the leaves. I sat on a balcony I had climbed to immediately when the people started to flood in. Many peasants lacked the clothing required for this temperature. If this announcement was not mandatory for everyone who was physically able, most peasants would be at home huddled around coals from a recent fire. I turned my attention to the center of town where the soldiers usually rallied just as the fire was lit at the central tower, positioned in the middle of the town, signalling that the announcement was about to begin. The castle gates opened to the courtyard revealing 1000 soldiers that marched out in 2 columns making an aisle between the crowd. Everyone went silent, hushed by the guardians. Throughout the courtyard I heard various footsteps echoing until 4 figures stopped in the aisle. I moved to a different hiding spot on the balcony so I could see. In the middle of the aisle stood First Knight Dykat, First Advisor Thyles, Commander Ehnce, and Princess Bydet. Thyles spoke first. "Lords, Ladies, and children" he spat. "It brings me great sorrow to announce that great King Bydet has died". He looked to the ground and smirked, before stepping back into the shadows. Princess Bydet stepped forward, sliding her ice white hair out of her face and adjusting her pearly white dress, covered in diamonds. "Worry not, lost souls of Mydet, for I, Theril Bydet, am your queen, here to save you after my fathers foolish way of ruling this land". Next, Dykat's voice boomed through the courtyard. "Hail, Queen Bydet!" He bowed, and so did the people, some by force. All bowed to the queen except me, who hid on the balcony, and Commander Ehnce. "Bow to me, Commander!" ordered the queen . The Commander refused and instead drew his great blade from its sheath. The crowd gasped and screamed, then silence washed over them as the Commander swung his sword at the queen and...

The slash was blocked by First Knight Dykat. Dykat then sliced at Ehnces leg and pushed him to his knees. Time slowed down as Ehnce turned his head to the balcony where I crouched and stared at me. The crowd roared in terror and tears poured down my face. "Hail, Queen Bydet!" Dykat screamed as he swung his heavy sword, beheading the Commander. "Father, no!" I heard a voice squeal. Then I recognized the voice. For it belonged to me. Mecka Ehnce. Daughter of dead Commander Ehnce. Daughter of a traitor. And the woman destined to kill the Queen.
