"Simon?" Nick asks anxiously when I storm through front door, panting.
"No, it's his secret twin, Tyrone," I say sarcastically. "Of course it's me."
"Hey, you'd better calm down. Dad isn't in the best mood, and Mum is freaking out that you are- were missing."
"It's not like I'm dead."
"Mum and Dad didn't know that. Make sure you show them you weren't kidnapped or suddenly died." I reluctantly nod and head to the kitchen.
"And you're a little prick for running off and getting me grounded and banned from using our game consoles," Nick calls after me. I turn and flip him off as I walk off and he returns the gesture with a frown.
"SIMON!" my mum cries out in relief and tackles me into a hug. I hug her back as she sobs into my t-shirt, rocking side to side with me.
"I thought you ran away," she says, her voice muffled with her arms wrapped around my torso- I was too tall for her to reach any farther.
"I'm sorry, Mum," I say guiltily.
"Don't ever do that again, Simon Minter."
"I know."
"SIMON MINTER!" my dad's voice shouts. I feel hands rip me away from my sobbing mother and wrap around my neck.
"How dare you think that it's okay to sneak out and get drunk? Don't you understand how much that could affect your football career?" he growls in my face as I struggle to pry off his hands. I gasp for air and scratch at his fingers.
"Put him down, what are you doing?" Mum screams and takes ahold of his shoulders, tugging him away from me.
"He learns nothing, this boy. It's about time I won't let him forget." Black spots dance around my eyesight as I run out of breath and begin to stop squirming in his grasp.
"He's going to die! Honey, stop choking him!" He finally lets go and I collapse to the ground, taking large inhales of air.
"Sometimes I think that you care more about my football profession than me," I pant resentfully between my breaths, holding my neck.
"I'm trying to prevent you from killing your future, which you're doing a very good job so far."
"I swear you're mixing up me with the future, then."
"None of this would've happened if you just focused on school and football," he snarls.
"None of this would've happened if you just let me be a regular teenager!" I counter with a glare.
"You are a regular teenager. A regular teenager that should focus on school more than silly parties and all that malarkey."
"That's enough," Mum says and guides my dad to the staircase. "Come upstairs."
"Simon!" Someone tackles me into a hug, causing me to stumble back and snap out of the past.
"Hayden?" I ask, surprised.
