"Are you kidding me?" I yell at the PA system. "Tell me what they said again, Cam. Because I know I misheard!"
"I'm pretty sure you heard Principal Morales right, Rain."
"Tell me!" I give her a stern look. I'm pretty sure she knows my crazy by now.
"He said we don't get to go outside in the rain today, because it's falling too hard." she mumbles, grumpily.
"So unfair! I mean seriously?!" I rant.
"Rain, please calm down, people are looking."
"We get to go out and play in the snow," my tirade has only just begun. "Snow is literally water, except it's frozen, which is technically more dangerous, because it can give you hypothermia way quicker."
"Um, rain also has thunder and lightning, which can also be pretty life threatening." she coughs at me, uncomfortably.
"That's beside the point!" I pause, realizing I've just been beaten. But still, snow doesn't feel the way rain does. Rain is so much better, and the sound is so incredible. Just as you may imagine my sister Snow has this argument with me almost everyday. Rain vs Snow. She is just as in love with the meaning of her name, as I am with mine. I guess I feel somehow closer to the rain than anyone else could because I literally am Rain.
"Would you relax?" she takes an exasperated breath. "Break period ends in 15 minutes, and then school is out. You can go play and dance or whatever you do out there in just 15 minutes. So if you can just keep your cool for like 15, that would be super awesome."
I sit down on the bench next to her, "Fine." I look at the ground, clearly defeated. This battle is not over though. Next time I won't be so forgiving, Principal Morales.
"So, you had that date on Saturday right?" she asks, desperately trying to switch topics. Although, this one isn't that much of a better one. I stare straight ahead out the window.
"How'd it go?" she asks me.
"Mehhhhh," I make a strangled sound in response.
"Are you okay?"
"Mehhhhhhh," better.
"Yeah.." I say, looking to the ground
"It didn't go at all, did it?" she raises her eyebrow.
"Mehh." this meh is short and straight to point. "Ehhh," I shrug.
"So he lead you on and it wasn't a real date he was just trying to hang out with you as a friend, and you made a move, and he didn't feel the same way and let you way down." she concludes with a short, heavy breath.
"How the hell did you know all that?"
"It's a gift," she says, framing her face happily with two hands. The bell rings so loud at that moment, that half the students in the hall put their hands to their ears. Not I though. As soon I hear the first ring, I am almost out of the door. I dash for the blacktop to my left, and spin around and around, embracing the wetness.
