Bruce Wayne under the big top at the circus ground watching the Haley's Circus group preforming. The circus was incredible, he had been curious however to see the Flying Grayson's preform their daring act. After meeting the family as Batman, after helping take care of Tony Zucco, who was "offering protection," he was curious to see what their act was. Also Bruce Wayne was sponsoring the circus to come to town this week as well so he had to at least show up for the first showing. The clowns were done with their act and Pop Haley walked out into the circle.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Tonight I give you an act that only belongs to Haley's Circus. Welcome the Flying Grayson's, who preform their daring feats without the safety of a net!"

Bruce watched at John Grayson took the swing and went out, then Mary Grayson catching her husband hands, then the youngest was about to go. Bruce stood up in horror at the sight before him.

Earlier that night:

Nine year-old Richard Grayson was jumping up and down in anticipation. He couldn't wait for the start of his family's act. He couldn't wait to fly in the air. Watching the circus ring before the nights show he saw someone that looked familiar walking away from the ring.

"Mommy," the boy said. "A strange man just walked off the stage."

"Don't worry about it my little robin," Mary said to her son. "Just get ready for tonight's show," Dick nodded and bounced away.

It was almost his turn, his mother just jumped out to his father. Ready to make his jump he looked up just in time to see the rope starting to break. Right before his eyes he watched his parents start to fall, their eyes were wide as they took one last look at the son they would never see grow up. The son with no other family left to care for him. The fear in their eyes as they realized this was their last time their son would ever see them, falling.

"Dick!" he heard him mother say.

"MOMMY! DADDY!"

Present:

Bruce watched in horror as the little boy saw his parents fall. His heart dropped when he saw the boy make his way down the ladder and to the bodies. The boy started to push the broken bodies crying for them to wake up. That was when one of the clowns walked out and tried to take the boy from his parents. The boy looked up at the clown and started to sob into the clown's arms. Picking the boy up the clown carried the youngest and last Grayson backstage.

Bruce couldn't help but feel something for the young Richard Grayson. It had been a week since what happened. He couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen to the kid now that his parents were gone. Tapping his pen on his desk he sat there for a while and looked around his office. Bruce had heard about the boy saying that Tony Zucco was responsible for his parents' death, and was now a ward of the state. Bruce was lucky to have Alfred. Sure the boy had the circus but the police took that away when he became the prime witness in a criminal case.

"Hey Alfred," Bruce sighed when he heard the door open.

"Hello Master Bruce," Alfred said.

"Alfred, I am going to pay for the boy's parents' funeral's," Bruce said. "The circus doesn't have the money..."

"I think that is fine Sir," Alfred said. Bruce nodded and left it at that.

It was the day of the funeral. It was raining in the Gotham Cemetery. Dick walked out of the police car that Commissioner Gordon drove down to the cemetery. Dick walked towards the two caskets under a tent. He ignored the feeling of rain hitting him. The funeral was nice, Dick heard that some rich man named Wayne paid for it. He was thankful for that. Dick was happy to see his circus friends as well at the funeral. He hadn't seen them since... Well that didn't really matter.

"Hello Richard," said a voice behind him.

"Hello?" Dick said turning around. A tall man with black hair and blue eyes looked down at him.

"I'm Bruce Wayne," Bruce introduced himself. Dick's blue eyes looked up at Bruce.

"Thank you for this Mr. Wayne," Dick said softly. Bruce smiled sadly and kneeled down to Dick's level.

"Your welcome," Bruce said. He looked over the boy, he looked tired, thinner, and a bruise was forming over his left eye. "Hey what happened?" Bruce asked.

"Um... I tripped," Dick said. "Anyways thank you again," the boy said leaving.

Bruce watched as the boy left. Something was going off in his head, a warning bell. Narrowing his eyes he looked at Alfred.

"I am going to take him in as a foster son, maybe adopt him later," Bruce said to Alfred suddenly. Alfred looked at Bruce with mild surprise.

"Take him in? With your night time activities?" Alfred asked.

"I am going to find Zucco make him pay and take care of Richard. It'll all work out, and Richard won't find out," Bruce said.

"Sure he won't Master Bruce."

Bruce led Dick into the house carrying a few bags with him. Once they got inside he placed the bags down on the ground.

"I'll put the car away," Bruce said softly to Alfred. "Could you get Dick situated?"

"Of course Master Bruce," Alfred answered back. Bruce nodded and gave a small smile.

"Okay then," Bruce crouched down to Dick's level. "Dick this is Alfred, my butler, he is a good friend and he is going to take care of you. Okay?" Dick just nodded and Bruce ruffled the boy's hair. "I am going to put the car away, and Alfred will show you to your room," with that Bruce stood up and left the two together. After putting the car away Bruce went to the cave changing his clothes.

Batman stood in front of the monitors in the Batcave planning how to take out Zucco. It was the third night Dick had come. He ignored the footsteps behind him.

"Master Richard has been asking for you," Alfred said. Batman just nodded, he knew where Zucco was at the circus grounds. He was just getting ready to go.

"He is having nightmares," he added. Batman turned.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"I would have sir, but you have been out for the last few nights," Alfred explained. "And the orphanage he was sent to abused him."

"What!?" Batman roared. That boy was so innocent, no one should hurt him. There was a sudden clatter Batman turned. Behind the giant dinosaur was a tuff of black hair. "Come out Dick," Batman sighed pulling off his cowl.

"YOU'RE BATMAN!"
