Today was probably going to be a day like any other, horrendous. Horrendous and full of fuck-ups and shitstorms and tears.
That's how Katelyn saw it. (it was probably true as well)
And yet, today she wanted to try something different. Maybe, if she could work up the courage to speak to her today, then she'll ask her. She nodded at her yesterday. (there's a pretty big difference between saying "Hi, how are you today?" and nodding, though)
There was something different with Katelyn today, something rare.
She was smiling.
She didn't know why, but she was. It was a small, almost unnoticeable smile that actually looked a bit like a grimace to anyone else.
But, she was smiling. She smiles as she entered the math classroom.
Her breathing's normal and regular and she wants to do something brash today.
Aphmau walks in at exactly 8:47, and the duo make eye contact. It's a comforting thing, Katelyn notes, much better than the jarring feeling two days ago. Some part of her feels safe around her, even if there's a small flutter in her stomach every time she walks by.
"Hi Katelyn," she says, standing next to her desk. "You alright?"
Katelyn feels her neck start to freeze up, but she pushes past it and nods anyways.
"... Y-Yeah, h-how are... You?" It's barely audible, and dammit... This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
The amber eyed girl chuckles.
"I'm okay, but thanks for asking! You seem really happy today, something happen?"
God, Katelyn never really noticed how melodious her voice was till now. She finds herself getting lost in her words until she realizes Aphmau stopped speaking and was waiting for her to speak instead.
"Ah, um... N-No, nothing... Really happened... J-Jus'... A good m-mood..?"
Shit.
Why did it come out like a question?
Aphmau laughs some more.
"Alright, whatever you say..."
The two sit in silence (peaceful for one and hellish for another) for a bit, then Katelyn decides she has to stay something.
"... U-Um, y-you have a phone, r-ri... Right..?"
Aphmau seems to pause to try and process what she said (damn mumbling) and then smiles.
"Yes, I do... Why, were you trying to get my number?"
Her face heats up.
"My my, I never knew you liked me like that!" Aphmau laughs some more and Katelyn finds herself trying to melt.
