"But Granddad!"
"Hush boy! You goin ta school, like it or not!" Granddad yells at his grandson. "Especially on yo first day!"
"But Gran-"
Whiiip!
"OW!"
Huey was downstairs the whole time, minding his own business. He eats from a bowl of popcorn and watches the daily news, ignoring his little brother's cries. Now fourteen years old, the revolutionary still hasn't changed, and he isn't planning to.
After a few more cries and whips, his grandfather stops downstairs, at the same time putting his belt back on. "Huey! Tomorrow you make sho yo brother wakes up and goes ta school! Drag him outta bed if you have to!"
Huey just nods at him, only half listening, mostly because he just doesn't care. He takes a handful of popcorn and eats it. Riley stomps down the stairs a few moments later, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. He sits down on the couch opposite granddad's recliner and crosses his arms. He glares at his older brother. Huey raises an eyebrow at him.
"What?"
"Nigga how cum Granddad never beats yo gay ass! Always putting me on da spot." He sucks his front teeth.
"Hm. I don't know, maybe because I actually obey him? Or cause I behave and listen like I should?" Huey returns his glare.
"Nigga please! He probably don't cuz yo gay ass too sensitive fo gettin whooped! You'll probably cry or sum girly gay ass shit."
"Riley, you were just crying minutes ago-"
"Nigga I wasn't cryin'! I was...takin ah shit."
"....so that crying noise was you having a bowel movement."
"Nigga shut up! Just gimme da remote! Ah ain't watchin' yo gay ass shows..." Riley gets up from the couch and walks over to Huey's right side to take the remote, but Huey takes it first.
"I'm not watching your BET shit either."
Riley launches to yank the remote, but not before Huey throws it in the air and does a back flip off the couch. He lands perfectly and holds out his hand. The remote falls in his hand.
Riley glares at him," Ooh nigga wait till ah go to karate camp!" He says before walking back upstairs and slamming the door to their room. Yup. They still share a room.
"Boy! Slam dat door again and dat lil black ass will be red when I'm done wichu!" Granddad yells from the kitchen.
Huey just shakes his head before sitting back on his spot.
'What I'd give to move out,' he thinks.

Huey feels his phone vibrate in his pocket. He pulls it out and answers without looking at the ID, eyes on the TV. "Hello."
"Hey, Huey!" he hears than sighs, regretting not looking at the ID.
"Hi, Jazmine." Jazmine DuBois was his neighbour, she just lived across the street actually. Huey found her incredibly annoying, sweet, but irritating. She'd always break into tantrums or cry herself out of situations...well, not till she turned fourteen, either way Huey still saw that same ten year old girl who'd always bug him. It was a Sunday that day and he hadn't expected to hear from her until the next day. "What is it?"
"I need your help!"
"Do you." Huey says half paying attention.
"Remember that math homework we got this Thursday?" Jazmine asks ignoring his cold tone.
