“Rose, remember to write, I know that you’ll be busy with Quidditch, but remember your parents.” Mum told me kissing my head and then tried to get her red lipstick off, “Sorry ‘bout that, dear, just be sure to get it off in the lavatory.” Mum smiled and patted my shoulder sending me to Daddy.

“Pumpkin, now remember stay away from the pure bloods… mostly Scorpius Malfoy.” Dad said laughing, “We won’t have to worry about that, though. Oh, and Quidditch, be sure to win every game for Gryffindor, be like Uncle Harry and Aunt Ginny.” Dad hugged me and kissed my cheek. “Love you, pixie .” He said, as I looked at him with a funny look on my face.

“I wouldn’t dream of a pure blood! And I’ll try, no promises, maybe this year’s team will be decent.” I said while I hugged him and Mum, “Love you both, and I will write once a month, maybe more, but that’s all I can truthfully promise.”

“Okay, Pumpkin.” They both said in unison, “Now catch that train.” I waved and walked forward to the beautiful Hogwarts express and jumped up and walked to a compartment without anyone in it, I looked back to see my small owl, Checkies, flying right behind me. I sat down, and threw my feet up on the bench I was sitting on, nobody ever bothered sitting with me.

I was weird, although I had beauty queen looks, I was just different enough to scare people from trying to make friends with me. Of course, I had friends, but they all lived in Hogsmeade village outside the walls of Hogwarts, therefore they didn’t ride the train, because that was a waste of time for them. I had almost fallen asleep when I heard the compartment door open slowly, “Hey, you’re Rose, right?” I opened my eyes to see a tall, blond haired guy standing in front of me, Scorpius Malfoy.

“Yeah, Scorpius, right?” I said, sitting up and running my hands through my dark red hair. My Dad would have a fit knowing that I was talking to Draco Malfoy’s son and we were being polite to each other.

He smiled at me, “Yes, I am, but call me Scor, I hate that name.” I laughed, as he leaned on the compartment door frame.

“Okay, Scor, and call me Rosie, Rose is too bland for my liking.” I smiled, he laughed and smiled a pearly white smile.

“Um, may I... join you?” He asked, looking quite awkward, I figured why not?

“Sure, Checkies, come get in your cage.” She quickly flew to her cage and perched, waiting for me to close the door, so I quietly closed it and looked at Scorpios who had just sat down across from me.

“Pretty owl you’ve got.” I smiled in thanks, “Um, I know that our parents weren’t exactly fond of each other, nor our grandparents, but please let’s not let it stop us from being friends, I don’t believe in my family’s old… practice, you could say. I do look up to your Uncle Harry, in ways.” Dad, if he was there, would’ve coughed and laughed declaring that impossible, but me I could tell by the way Scorpius looked that he wasn’t lying.

“Oh, well, sure, I won’t, but what exactly made you want to talk to me?” I asked, nobody talked to me unless they had too, and by the look on his face he didn’t have too.

“I was walking by, and you seemed lonely, so I thought I’d stop and talk to you, maybe get to know you a little better.” He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, “And you don’t seem to have many friends and I thought you’d like another friendship, I know I would, my friends are all pricks.”

“Ah, well thanks, and I’m sorry and yeah, we can be friends, if you’d like.”  I said, picking at the old velvet on the benches.

“I’d like that very much, so tell me about yourself, Rosie.”

“Well, I’m a 5th year, but I’m sure you know that, I am head of Gryffindor Quidditch team this year and I play the position of Seeker, like my uncle Harry. I have a pesky little brother named Hugo, and my middle name is Ginerva, oh and me and my cousin James are head of the club Dumbledore’s Army. And that is about all there is to know about me, what about you?”

“I’m a 5th year too, I play on the Slytherin Quidditch team, keeper. I have an older sister named Juliet, of course she gets the normal name. I don’t have any cousins, and I’m nothing like my father was, I’m sure you’ve heard stories, I have, my favorite being how your mum punched my dad in the face.” He laughed, I’ve heard that story many of a time.

“Yes, I’ve heard that one too.” I giggled and glanced over to see Hugo standing at the compartment door. “Hugo, get in here… now!” I hissed, standing up and pulling him in.

“Rosie-Pumpkins is going to be in so much trouble when Dad finds out you are talking… no, laughing with a Slytherin, I guess I’ll then be the favorite child. Hm, has its bright sides, eh Rosie?”

“Hugo Weasley! You are not telling, I know some things you’ve done before… selling our garden gnomes to Aunt Luna for their saliva and pocketing the money!” I smiled as he looked down, “Thought so, anyhow Scor, this is Hugo, Hugo this is Scor.” I introduced them, they both shook hands.

“Nice to meet you, Hugo, I’m Scorpius, but call me Scor.”

“Nice to meet you too, I’m Hugo.”  They smiled politely at each other, “Well, Rose, I’ve got to go and find Lily.”

“Tell her Quidditch tryouts are in 2 weeks, to be there and be ready to wow me, which I know she will.” Hugo nodded and walked out, going to find his best friend and favorite cousin.

“He seems nice.” Scor laughed, laced his fingers together and placed them behind his head, he looked at me with big wide blue eyes.

“No, Hugo is a menace, but he’s nice to Lily.” I said, Lily was about as big of an outcast as I was, she was so loony, like her godmother who she spent a month with every summer holiday.

“Lily, Harry’s daughter, right?” Scor asked, leaning forward, placing his elbows on his knees.

“Yeah, the baby of our family, although she’s just about 2 years younger than me and Albus, and 5 months younger than Hugo.” I nodded as the sweets trolley came by.

“You want anything?” Scorpius stood up and walked to the door.

“Um, acid pop please.” I said, feeling awkward, Dad’s without a doubt going to disown me. I watched Scor, he bought like 10 chocolate frogs and a pack of Bernie Botts.

“Here you go Rosie.” He handed me my acid pop and plopped down opening a chocolate frog package. “I GOT YOUR DAD!” He yelled, I blushed deeply.

“Ha, don’t let the picture see me.” We laughed and continued to eat our candy.
