Chapter 49: It's All My Fault

Riley's POV:

"Speed!" I exclaimed slamming my hands on the two piles of cards.

Steve and I are playing card games while waiting for David. Steve chuckled as he shook his head.

"I still don't get it," he mumbled confused.

"How? I explained it like 5 times. Just admit it, I'm better than you." I said sticking out my tongue like a little kid.

He rolled his eyes. I shuffled the cards.

"Wanna play another round?" I asked.

"I'd rather not," he said.

I nod as I put my deck of cards away. I sat on the couch next to Steve. I took out my phone to check any signs from Tony. Still nothing. I sighed.

"What's Tony been up to?" Asked Steve randomly.

"He and Bruce are working together with who knows what." I told him.

"Is that why you're constantly checking your phone?" He asked me.

"I just miss him so much," I said softly.

I heard knock on the door. I got up on my feet and opened the door. There stood, David. Half of me wants to just punch him in the face, and the other half of me wants to hug him. I stepped aside and let him inside my office. I closed the door.

"Steve Rogers," said Steve introducing himself to David.

"David O'Conner," smiled David as they shook hands.

David turned to me and opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it.

"We need your help getting Jake back," I said getting straight to my point.

His smile faded as he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"Why? What happened to Jake?" He asked.

I clenched my fist.

"Trent took him last week because he wants me to suffer. He sent us a video and we've been trying to track down where it was sent from but it's been a week and we still have nothing. You're our only hope on finding Jake." I told him.

David nod his head. "You can count on me," he said.

I hope this works.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's 2 in the morning and David is still trying to track down the video. He's been trying to start a conversation with me but I would always just answer with a single word. Steve left about an hour ago, leaving me alone in my office with David.
"You still haven't forgiven me, have you?" Asked David.
"Try having your father give you away to a dangerous psychotic man," I said rolling my eyes.
I continued focusing on my paperworks. I heard him sigh.
"You don't understand," he muttered.
"WHAT DON'T I UNDERSTAND?!" I snapped at him, slamming my fist on the table.
"You gave me away and you lied to me! It's not that hard to understand!" I exclaimed, standing up on my feet and walking up to him.
"You're here to help Steve and I to find Jake. That's all. I don't want any of your apologies or explanations." I bellowed.
"I had no choice," he said.
"I don't care," I said coldly.
"I did it to save you and your brothers."
"Don't you dare try bringing them into this," I said feeling my heart break.
Even though I only remember spending such little times with my brothers and I can't remember their names or faces, I loved them so much.
"Trent wanted to take you away ever since you were born. I don't know why. Your mother and I didn't let him take you. But when he ordered someone to kill your mother... It got worst. He threatened to kill your brothers and you. It got to the point where they shot your oldest brother and got your twin brother in a coma. I thought that if I gave you up to them, I can just save you the next day and kill Trent." He took a deep breath in order to prevent the tears coming down from his eyes.
"I did save you but it took me a long time and I couldn't even save your brothers. I'm so sorry." He said wiping his eyes.
I'm the reason my mother and brothers are dead. I'm also the reason why my best friend is being tortured right now. I felt a tear drop down from my eyes. I felt strong arms wrapped around me. I sobbed quietly.
"I'm sorry for being the reason why they're dead," I mumbled.
I pulled away from the hug before he can say anything else. I ran out of my office and headed straight to the training room. I felt my hand heat up. I screamed in agony as fire streamed out of my palms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I kept punching the punching bag. I've been doing this for what seems like hours. Thoughts about my mother and brothers keeps flooding in my brain.

"How long have you been in here?" Asked a familiar voice.

I stopped what I was doing and I turned around and see Steve. I shrugged.

"It doesn't matter," I muttered.

"David told me what happened," he said softly as he walked up closer to me.

We were now face to face.

"I don't need your pity," I said.

"And I don't need your stubbornness," He said bluntly.

Shots fired.

"What do you want?" I sighed in annoyance.

I just don't want to deal with anything or anyone at the moment. His blue eyes stared deeply into my eyes.

"It's not your fault," he said softly.

He pulled me in a tight hug. I wrapped my arms around him as well. We stayed like this for what seems like a very long time. It was surprisingly very comfortable. We finally pulled away.

"I'm just going check up on David. Please take it easy." he said giving me a small smile.

I nod. He left. I took out my phone. Still nothing from Tony. I frowned. I dialled Tony's number. After multiples of rings, it went to voice mail.

"Hey Tony. Call me as soon as possible. I just... I miss you so much and I just need you right now... More than ever. I love you." I said.

I ended the voice mail. After I took a shower and change into some fresh clothes, I went back to my office. I don't even know how I'm suppose to face David. I've been blaming him for ruining my life when in reality I'm the one who ruined his. I was the reason why his wife and sons are dead. Steve and David were staring intently at the computer.

"We're halfway through locating where the video was from," said David grinning.

I grinned. Oh thank god.

"Come on, we need to suit up," said Steve taking me by arm and dragging me out.

"Thank you," I mouthed to David.

He gave me a small smile.
