Ethan, Jane, and I are all sitting at the kitchen table doing various things, Ethan was working on his math homework, Jane was coloring, and I was drawing in my sketch book. We were all working quietly when all of the sudden Jane breaks the silence.
"It must be embarrassing needing a babysitter in high school." She said not even looking up from her paper. Ethan just looks back down at his homework annoyed with our little sister and I roll my eyes annoyed with our little sister.
"Howdy partners." Our mom said walking in with our dad dresses western style.
"Ain't she as purdy as a 20 dollar bill in a 10 gallon hat?" Our dad asks talking about our mom.
"Oh well thank you kind sir." Our mom said curtsying and smiling. "We're goin country-line dancin."
"Yeah, I kinda noticed." Ethan said awkwardly.
"Nice accents." I say commenting on their 'western accents.'
"Umm, mom? Dad? I just anted to say...you were right. We shouldn't have left Jane unattended last week." Ethan says.
"Yeah, we learned our lesson." I said seriously.
"So, you can cancel the sitter and save 25 dollars." Ethan finished and we both stared hopefully.
"Ethan, Emily, I already told you, I'm not going to leave you alone with Jane until I know you can be trusted." Our mom said seriously.
"Sorry partners, she's the sheriff." Our dad said semi smiling at us and I shrug my shoulders and start to draw again.
"Fine!" Ethan said slamming his book closed. "I'll be in my room. Alone." He said to the both of them still standing there.
"And I thought it was the teenage girls that were moody, not the boys." Our dad said as soon as Ethan was out of earshot.
"Oh, right. Sorry hold on." I said closing my eyes and taking a deep breath then opening them again and continuing. "Fine! I'll just go to my room then! Alone!" I said very over exaggeratedly slamming my sketchbook onto the table and scooting my chair out. My dad chuckled and kissed the top of my head as I was walking by.
"Goodnight buddy." He said to me and I turned around to look at him and smile.
"Goodnight daddy." Then I continued around the bend and up the stairs to to my room. I closed my bedroom door and laid on my bed grabbing my game controller and turning on my big flatscreen tv to play Heavy Rain right where I stopped last time. I play Heavy Rain for a while when my phone lights up to show a text. I pause my game to see who texted me and saw that it was Rory.
R~'Hey Em, I'm going to this sick senior party and I was wondering if you and Ethan wanted to come?'
E~'woah! That sounds awesome! But we can't go, were grounded remember besides the whole party thing isn't really my scene.'
R~'dang I forgot about you guys being grounded. Oh well see you Monday.'
E~'see you Monday'
I put my phone down and see that I haven't been playing for very long after all. It's only been about 15 minutes. I thought I had been playing for 30-45 minutes. I go downstairs to see Jane still coloring but on the living room table I stress of the dinging room table.
"Hey Jane, whatcha doin?" I ask her kneeling beside her.
"I'm drawing like you do." She said handing me a piece of paper so that I could draw with her. Dusk was playing on the tv and Jane would watch it more than she would color, then my mom opened the front door.
