I sit on my bed browsing Tumblr and snacking on an apple, when my mom calls me upstairs.
"Yeah?" I say, running my hands through my hair. My mom sits at the kitchen table, looking upset.
"Your father is going to be in town. He wants to see you." She explains. I feel like a huge weight has just been dropped on me. My dad wants to see me?
"Why does he want to see me? Clearly he doesn't care about either of us, or he wouldn't have walked out when I was 6 years old!" I yell angrily. He has no right to contact us like this.
"Anna, please." My mom says quietly, and I know that I need to calm down. I sit across from her and take her hand.
"Okay." Is all I reply with. My mom takes a deep breath.
"He said he can meet you next weekend at that Starbucks near that shop we like. You know the one." I nod. I do know where that is. I just don't want it to be ruined by the imprint of my father.
"I will. Get some sleep, mom. You look tired." I say, and go back to my bedroom. Not even music can distract me from this. Why now?
I finally just shut my laptop and turn off my bedside lamp. Maybe if I sleep I can forget about this, no matter how briefly.
