Mark and Dale have waited a long time for this. They are in a helicopter with 2 other friends, Walter and Peter. Peter is the pilot and he is helping our colony, the Nüir, scout an abondoned city about 35 miles away from our city of Nüir. We have about 350 people there and we have been hanging on barely because the other colonies have been a lot more defensive lately. Our world changed about 7 years ago. It was an asteroid that nearly hit us, but only grazed the planet. It killed everything in Asia and then the planet was pushed further away from the sun. It's winter most of the time except July and August when it's warmest and we get snow melting.
The planet's crust has been constantly cracking and breaking. Most of South America is gone and Asia and Europe is completely gone. South Africa is the only surviving part in Africa. Australia is fractured, but the warfare had killed most people there. Few survived in North America. We are in Nevada, USA. The warmest place we can find that is inhabitable. That doesn't have constant warfare, if course. There are about 3 or 4 major colonies in Nevada
