Part Six
“What are you doing in here?” An angry voice boomed from the doorway at Eloise. She had spent the last few hours lost in her thoughts. “Everyone has been looking for you. The old man thought you had gotten away.”
“So I really am nothing but a prisoner.”
Jared was taken aback at her cold defeated tone. From what Bowen had told him and Daniel about her trying to escape from the cabin. He had figured this girl was a fighter.
“You got Juniper in trouble for disappearing.”
“Why did she get in trouble?!” Eloise asked in a demanding tone.
“The old man told her to look after you because you can’t-”
“I can’t what? That I can’t take care of myself? You can tell Bowen that I can. I’m not helpless.” She said assuredly.
“Then how did he capture you?”
“That’s…that’s different.” Eloise said bitterly.
“How?”
Eloise blamed herself for being here. If she hadn’t got so upset about being blind, something she couldn’t change. She would still be at home with her mother. Jared crossed the room and took her by the arm. She didn’t resist. Eloise just followed him like a lifeless doll.
For the estate to be filled with so many the corridors were always deathly quiet. The entered a regular sized room but it was just as finely decorated as any other in the house.
“She was in the classroom.” Jared told Bowen when the entered the room. Bowen got to his feet and walked over to her.
“Why were you in the classroom?”
“I want to go home.” Eloise said stubbornly. He ignored her comment and asked another question.
“Why didn’t you tell Juniper where you were going?”
“I want to go home.”
“Take her to her room.” Bowen told Jared seeing that he wasn’t going to get any answers out of her.
“I want to go home. I wanna go home!”
Jared quickly led Eloise to her room. Still nothing seemed familiar about the pathway to her except the number of steps to the second floor. But that didn’t make a difference because it was the same staircase as before.
“You really shouldn’t push your luck with the old man.”
“I wanna go home!” She screamed.
For the next few days whenever anyone would say anything to her, Eloise would response with “I want to go home.” On the third day of this Bowen made her start eating in her room because she would yell until she was sent away that she wanted to leave.
“Bowen she’s not happy here.” Daniel argued but his voice remained calm and respectful.
“None of them are at first.” Bowen clarified.
“You know that’s not what I mean.”
“I don’t care what you mean. She’s not leaving no matter how stubborn she wants to be. Tomorrow will go as planned!” He concluded.
Jared sat in the corner of Bowen’s study daydreaming. He honestly could care less about what happened to Eloise. He couldn’t stand her and she hadn’t given him any reason not to. Bowen had given Jared the orders to take care of Eloise since Juniper had proven that she couldn’t handle it. Eloise didn’t make it a pleasant job for him either.
“I will take Annie to get a dress among other things. Jared you need to go get Eloise measurements for Annie.”
“Why me? Send one of the girls.” Jared argued but was on his way out anyway. He entered Eloise’s room without knocking.
“If your not here to take me home you might as well leave now.” Eloise laid in the bed the comforters in a heap. She looked dirty, her hair hadn’t been combed in days and she had been wearing the same thing.
“I’ve come to take your measurements for a dress.” He told her.
“He is going to buy me a funeral gown. That’s nice.”
“It’s a dress for the ceremony tomorrow night.” Jared said absentmindedly.
“A ceremony for what? Is he gonna dress me up like a china doll? Make me drink blood to kill my human soul and turn me into a vampire? So he can keep me as his princess vampire bride?” She asked sarcastically.
“Yes.” Jared responded dead serious. Eloise’s whole face dropped and she started to hyperventilate.
“What?” She managed to breathe.
“I’m kidding, like you could ever pass as a princess.”
“You’re not funny.”
“Neither are you. I need you to stand up.”
“What for?”
“To take your measurements.” She didn’t move. Jared sighed dramatically. “If I don’t do it. The old man will.”
She didn’t want Bowen any where near her so she stood. “Well what are you waiting for?”
“I’m not really sure what to measure.”
“You really are an idiot. Take my height, bust, waist, and hips.” Eloise said knowingly.
Jared first took her height and scribbled it on a piece of paper. “I need you to raise you arms.” He wrapped the measuring tape around her waist followed by her hips. She blushed as his hands brushed across her body. “I need you to raise your arms again.” Eloise could feel his warm breath on cheek as he bent over to take the last measurement.
“Ah…you done?” Eloise asked because Jared still had the tape across her chest.
“Yeah.” He scribbled down the rest of her measurements and headed for the door. “Oh Eloise?”
“Yes?”
“You smell. You should take a shower.” Jared said and closed the door. Eloise throw a pillow at the door but she headed to the bathroom to shower. It had been two days since the last time she had.
