Warning: self harm

Water lapped at his toes as he slowly sunk into the wet sand. The sun was setting and he was waiting for the person that changed his life.

Jongin had always been a lonely boy. Very shy and quiet. When he wasn't at school he was walking along the shoreline, collecting sea shells. He loved the sea and all of it's hidden treasures. His parents had bought a house near the ocean when Jongin was two years old.

When Jongin was 14 he started having problems with bullies. He would go to the water in comfort and salty liquids from his face and the waves met. The pain was all washed away when he left his worries in the sand.

At 16 he couldn't handle being alienated anymore. He went to the shore and sat in his favorite spot. He took the blade and slid it's smooth edge against his wrist. Then all he saw was black.

Just when he thought his misery was over he woke up to the sound of crashing waves. He looked at his wrists in disbelief because they looked as if they had never been cut. He looked at his hands and unfurled his fingers. In his palm was a sea shell. It wasn't normal and he knew from all of his shell studying that this one was only found in very deep water. It had a silver tint to it that made it change colors when the light hit it at different angles.

He didn't know what happened that night, but someone or something didn't want him to die.

He met the person that saved his life a year later. Once again the bullying had picked up and he had just been told that he has depression. He was going to fix his problems in the best way he knew how to. With a razor blade and the sea by his side.

It was past midnight when he snuck out of the house. He had left a note saying goodbye to his parents sitting on the kitchen table. He knew his parents would be devastated, but he couldn't continue on like this anymore.

As he touched the blade to his wrist a soft voice called out, "Wait!"

He stopped in shock. This was his little hideout. How can anyone know about it?

The voice called out again and he looked towards the water where it sounded like it was coming from. It was very dark out and the only light was coming from the moon. Jongin could make out the faint form of something moving closer to him, coming from the water's edge.

When the other came into Jongin's view, under the moonlight he could make out the younger male's silver hair that stuck to his forehead.

Jongin dropped the blade and ran to help the boy who was laying in the water.

"Stop," the boy in the water said and Jongin froze, "Don't come closer. You will be afraid of me."

Jongin took another step closer and said, "You need help though!"

"No Jongin, it's you who needs help."

His breath caught in his lungs when he heard his name come out of the lips from the beautiful stranger. The melodic tone only encouraged him to walk closer the the boy.

As his toes reached the water's edge he saw something large shimmering beneath the small waves. It moved, almost anxiously, the closer he got to it. He was about two feet away when he realized the thing moving in the water was attached to the boy. His eyes widened and he fell backwards into the water with a splash.

The boy in the water sighed, "See I told you that you would be afraid. You can run away now."

Jongin was terrified, but he wasn't going to run away. This boy somehow saved his life.

"What's your name?" Jongin asked.

"Sehun. Why aren't you running?"

"To be honest I am slightly scared, but I have a feeling that you mean no harm to me."

"You're right. I don't want to hurt you, I just want to be your friend."

No one has ever asked to be my friend before Jongin thought to himself.

Jongin smiled at Sehun and said, "Okay, I'll be your friend."

Sehun surprised expression made Jongin chuckle.

"Jongin, it's getting late. You should head home. I will meet you here tomorrow when the sun is setting."

Jongin wanted to protest, but Sehun was right. It was getting late. Jongin got up to leave, but before he stepped away Sehun grabbed his ankle. Sehun held out his hand and put something into Jongin's palm. He unfurled his fingers and saw the same seashell that he had seen years ago. He stared at and was going to question the other, but by the time he looked up the other boy had disappeared without a sound.

It was silent out as he walked back home. The only thing that could be heard were the soft crashes of waves against the sand.

When he entered the house he looked at the note still sitting on the table. He snatched it up quickly and crumpled it into a ball. He threw it away along with all of his worries about the upcoming day.
