Chapter 3: I need a light to take me home...

I walked to the school gates when I noticed that everyone was staring at me. What? Do I have something on my face?! I thought. I pulled up my hood; feeling slightly uncomfortable, being in the center of attention.

I looked to my left and found a girl; I think her name was May; she's in my biology class. My eyes met hers; she gave me a look of sympathy, but before she could say anything, I walked away.

I looked down confused. What is happening? Everyone used to give me glares and looks of disgust... but now, all the hatred turned into sympathy?!

BAM!

Just when I was about to enter the school building I ran bang slam into May's best friend. "Uh sorry, I wasn't look-" I started but he cut me off."Get out of here!! Go home! Don't come to school he's going to kill you!" he whispered harshly and ran off to wherever he was heading.

What's his problem? Who was he talking about? When I went in the building I was surprised to see a crowd huddled around my locker. It was clear something was happening, but the crowd's too thick to see. I tried to make my way through the crowd but when people saw me they would push me back and hiss at me.

"Go home! You'll make things worse"

"Get out of here!"

"He'll kill you both! Is that what you want?!"

I ignored all the voices, my heart was beating fast. I knew that what was behind the thick crowd was meant for me. When I finally broke through to the empty space I gasped at the sight in front of me. Brad was standing there. Face red with anger. He looked like he was about to explode! He was pinning a boy to my locker; holding him up by the front of his shirt.

"Tell me where is that bitch!" he screamed at the poor boy. He had blood trickling down from his nose and a very bad black eye. It was obvious the boy didn't know where I was but Brad didn't seem to believe that.

"There she is!!" shrieked his girlfriend Nora pointing at me. All eyes turned to look at me -including Brad's. I gulped.

Brad dropped the boy he was beating up to the ground. No one dared to step up and help him. Nora was smirking while brad was taking big steps towards me. He came closer and closer until he had my back pressed to one of the lockers. I looked around the hallways searching for any kind of help. There was May standing next to the guy I bumped into, earlier. I looked at them both with pleading eyes. May was biting her lip in concern and the guy I bumped into was there staring at me. I looked at them as if to say "Please, help me!!" but I knew no one cared about me. I watched them as they made their way out of the crowd.

I knew it... I knew they wouldn't actual-

My thoughts were cut off by brad slamming his fist on the locker behind my head. I flinched and pressed my back further into the lockers -if that was even possible. Brad shoved his hand in his pocket. He then pulled out a 'Live Strong' silver bracelet... My 'Live Strong' silver bracelet.

I gasped. "That's mine! Where did you get it from! You stole my bracelet!" I shrieked. I tried to reach for my bracelet but he pulled it away from me.

"And that's exactly why I'm here, Cocaine" he said. Cocaine was what Brad and Nora always called me; since the name 'Kinie' was not in their dictionary.

"Do you want to know where I found this?" he said glaring at me. I shrugged my shoulders lightly -looking at my shoes.

"Well apparently, after you egged my car, you might have dropped this little piece of shit." He said jiggling my bracelet.

"I- I didn't egg you ca-" I never got the chance to complete my sentence.

"Do not even think about lying!" he said through gritted teeth.

I felt like a tiny mouse under the power of the lion.

"Where were you last night cocaine?" he said slowly, as if talking to a child.

"I... I w-" once again I was cut off; but this time it wasn't Brad who interrupted me... it was the principle Mr. Andrew and behind him stood May and the guy I bumped into before I entered the school building.

His eyes darted slowly back and forth between me and Brad. "Bradley Erickson..." he started slowly. Brad chuckled nervously "Me and co- K-Kinie were just discussing the history assignment." He said slowly shooting me a glare. "Is that your bracelet Kinie?" Mr. Andrew asked referring to the bracelet Brad was holding. I nodded looking down. Mr. Andrew looked at Brad then at me. "What is it doing with Bradley?" he asked. All eyes were focused on me. I stayed quiet.

"Bradley, give the bracelet back to Kinie, and then I want to see you in my office." Mr. Andrew said coldly. Brad tossed the bracelet carelessly at me and shot me a death glare -informing me that this wasn't over and I will pay.

Mr. Andrew clapped his chubby hands together. "Okay, students. Go back to your classes" he looked at the boy Brad beat up earlier and looked at Brad with sharp eyes. "May, Dylan please take him to the nurse. It doesn't seem like he will be able to walk properly for a while" he told May and the guy I bumped into whom I just discovered his name was Dylan.

They nodded. And while they were helping him up May looked at me and smiled slightly. I smiled back and nodded a little, as a 'thank you for calling the principle'.

May and Dylan saved me from getting beat up... I owe them big time...
